    Hardware/Electronic Guys - Help

I have two of these laying around

I don't have the receiver that I used to power them any longer. How would I go about running these speakers off of my computer? What hardware would I need? I'd like to put them to use again instead of being used as shelves for my books.

    Thanks!

you would need some type of an amplifier to power them. You can run them off one of those older CD style "boom Boxes" like this

but the OHMs might be different on those vs an actual receiver.

Dude those are f-ing classic. I'm jealous. Just buy a receiver off Ebay.

A new receiver or the amp idea would probably be the easy way to go, thanks guys. Yeah, I bought them I don't know how many years ago, a long, long time! It was my first real kick ass stereo system and I didn't have the heart to part with them. They've just been sitting around unused for the last 3 or 4 years.

You don't need much power for them, I'm sure you can wake the neighbors with 30-40 watts.

Here is the exact model of mine, black, 15", re38 series. I will definitely wake the neighbors!

The ones I posted above look like newer models.

So if you buy a receiver just make sure it will handle a 4 ohm load, or you can buy a separate power amplifier. I just bought a Crown XLS1000 to runs some bass shakers that I mounted under my theater seats and it will handle a 2 ohm load.
I actually had that problem with my old receiver. I could run just one speaker. If I ran two, the receiver would shutdown and need to cool off for some time before I could even use it again. I forget what kind of receiver it was, but I paid about $500 for it at the time. I want to say yamaha...but I don't think it was that good. I think I paid around $800 for the pair of speakers. I had some good times even with one speaker and no one enjoyed being my neighbor
