and the main thing is its in wordpress....
so either they are using something custom or its already in the market.,

I think they are using a custom code for it. It's not hard to write it. Doesn't matter for WP or anything else.

could be done via url query and ajax and one of the quantcast or other sites api's

i wouldnt do something like this for any less than $1000 though.

just because its tedious to do.

Yep, the data is cashed. If you replace google.com with some little "unknown" site, it will take some time to get the data.
