if you optimize a jpg - use a Jpeg optimizer
if gif - use a photoshop or paintshop pro (better) and your brain

Never optimize an image... if the surfer sees a 140K image, he knows he's getting the best quality available and will always come back.

I figure if the surfer can't wait for my 25 images @ 350K each to download, then he doesn't really appreciate the kind of quality I have to offer and is therefore not a good quality surfer himself. My surfers have very good taste.... all 3 of them.

This sounds brutal but I just took 40 seconds off my load time... With the hitbox image optimization tool

My site is optimized for people who have high speed connections. I know that is ignoring most of the public but what the fuck!

I am down to an 80 second load at 33.6 LOL!!

Wouldn't that depend on what dimension you are optimizing? If you are optimizing for size, you lose quality. If you are optimizing for quality you lose a size advantage. If you optimize for a compromize between the two, you lose bit of both.
