    Jordan Fired!!!

wonder what franchise he'll ruin next. Jordan ain't cut out for management, not smart enough and not patient enough.

i see a long retirement ahead of him with 10 figure gambling debts, golf and lots of whores. not a bad consolation prize!

    Associated Press

WASHINGTON -- Michael Jordan isn't welcome back with the Washington Wizards, who abruptly dumped him Wednesday because he failed to turn them around in his 3½ seasons on and off the court.

Team owner Abe Pollin made the decision after meeting with Jordan, who was the Wizards' president before coming out of retirement to play for them the past two years.

"I firmly believe that Michael's time with us as a player will have a lasting impact on every player on our roster, and there is no question that our fans were treated to a very unique two seasons as the greatest player in the world completed his career here in Washington,'' Pollin said in a statement.

No statement was issued by Jordan, who led the Chicago Bulls to six NBA titles in the 1990s but never came close to duplicating that success in Washington. But he planned to resume his front-office job with the Wizards now that his playing days are over.

A Wizards source, speaking on condition of anonymity, told The Associated Press that Pollin's decision was based on three reasons: player dissension, a franchise faltering after the years of Jordan in charge, and deteriorating relationships throughout the organization.

If you were a NBA team owner, would you want Michael Jordan as your GM?
    Yes
    No

The source said no decision has been made yet regarding the front-office people Jordan hired, or whether Jordan's hand-picked coach, Doug Collins, will remain for the final two years of his contract.

Jordan put the Wizards on the map when he was hired in January 2000, but his management moves failed to turn the moribund franchise around. The team is 110-179 since he became the top decision-maker, a role he kept even after returning as a player.

The last few months have been particularly embarrassing for Pollin's team.

Jordan and his teammates were sniping at each other as the Wizards finished a disappointing 37-45 for the second consecutive year and missed the playoffs again. Players publicly criticized Collins, and Collins accused them of being disrespectful. Recent reports in The New York Times and The Washington Post talked of a rift between Pollin's people and Jordan's people.

Jordan has spoken to Robert Johnson, new owner of the Charlotte NBA franchise, about a possible role with that team, a person with knowledge of those discussions told The Associated Press this week on condition of anonymity.

Wednesday's much-anticipated meeting included Jordan, Pollin, Wizards minority owner Ted Leonsis, Pollin's attorney David Osnos and Jordan's attorney Curtis Polk. It was Leonsis who brought Jordan to Washington originally by making him part owner of both the Wizards and the Washington Capitals.

But Jordan stumbled from the start. He botched the firing of coach Gar Heard and later hired Leonard Hamilton, who in one season produced a 19-63 record. Jordan tried to run the team from his home in Chicago -- the only commuting front-office head in the NBA -- leaving a rudderless team to falter on its own.

Jordan did manage to clear most of the Wizards' salary cap mess before he made his biggest personnel move: coming back as a player for two seasons.

This past season, he loaded the roster with Jerry Stackhouse, Bryon Russell, Larry Hughes and Charles Oakley in an effort to get to the playoffs one last time, but the chemistry was bad from the start. Playing alongside the person who is also in charge proved too awkward for many of the players.

Before Jordan arrived, the Wizards were a nondescript perennial loser with no national profile. They haven't been to the playoffs since 1997, haven't won a playoff game since 1988 and haven't won a playoff series since 1982. The franchise's only league championship came in 1978 as the Washington Bullets.

Pollin, a 79-year-old owner looking for one more title, must now start from scratch again. General manager Wes Unseld -- who held the title in name only while Jordan was around -- is taking a leave of absence next month for health reasons, so this summer probably will see a full front-office overhaul.

that whole story is garbage from the opening tip...He DID turn the franchise in a positive direction. The wiz would take a losing season every fuckin year if they could sell out every game, rank #5 in merchandising and at least have some free agent pull having Jordan around.HE LEFT... If he goes to Charlotte or Chicago he will have absolute control over everything,he won't have to run any decisions by ANYBODY...thats why he's gone

and I know,I just talked to Mike on the celly

The Wizard are a horrible organization, the NBA does its best to help the bottom feeders out with the charity draft where the worst get the pick of the cream of the crop. The Wizards have fed there on numerous occassions and they continue to flounder.

Take a look at Jordan's moves wearing his GM hat - he ain't no Jerry West, not even Jerry Krause.

Jordan can sell Haynes, give him some credit! DO you know the pressure he was under promoting BallPark hotdogs?

You expect him to do B-ball too?

He is done, and thank god I dumped his rookie card when it had some value.

washington was majorly messed up when he first joined them. he gave them some financial flexibility and increased the franchise value. i think he was fairly successful in washington.

not even jordan can turn a pile of shit into a pot of gold.

Trading Richard Hamilton was a major mistake.

to me,the only mistake he made was drafting Kwami Brown #1... He traded for Stackhouse, who IS a franchise player and Larry Hughes is a quality #2 scorer..Plus Bryan Russell and a few other people they acquired...On paper, the team looked fuckin great BUT they had too many players at one position,it fucked up any type of rotation...I do think Jordan playing messed up the development of the team on the court though...but the players were good! I do agree with you though,Washington has fucked up the last 5-7 years when drafting and not signing their franchise players...How could you let Webber go? and draft all these terrible players?
