Which one is better? Static 10-20page mini sites or using wordpress? Does it matter?

A wordpress blog is also a mini-site if you don't update it... and it depends on lot of factors what to do.. for example I've a few 1 page seo sites which are doing a lot better (traffic/sales wise) then my old frequently-updated blogs...

Even if you are just going to create a 10-20 page 'mini' site, why not use WP anyway?

There are lots of factors and it depends what you're looking for, but a simple HTML site can run faster than a Wordpress site; Google likes this as will your surfers. If you know SEO then that's another reason not to bother with Wordpress (for a small site).

I do like Wordpress a lot and the majority of my sites run on it, but there are times when an basic HTML site will do the job nicely

Totally agree, also if you move sites etc then there are no DB issues, you just move the files and everything works nicely

So true, it can pay to keep things simple, just depends on the objective, there are pros and cons of both routes

if it was say 5 pages, i would use html/css plus a minimal php templating system, otherwise wordpress for larger projects.
