Anyone root their Android? Droid Charge??

Im about fed up with this phone. Battery life fucking blows and apps like juice defender make the phone all but useless.

I'll be honest, I miss my iPhone for its stability. I always got my emails when they came in, didn't have to sync the fucking phone 45 times. Plus when text messages came in, I didn't have to click a button that says "download message" which does nothing besides take forever to download a message from a friend saying "going out, you coming?"

However, the Android does have its benefits, but right now I hate every fucking phone. Someone told me to root the Droid Charge and that will remove a lot of these worthless apps and speed up the system. Worth a shot right?

The other option is I call and dispute the charge with Amex and get my money back for the $300 phone, but then I have to buy another

My android is bare-bones and it doesn't have any of the crap these carries are putting on top of it and re-branding it. The battery life is a day and a half. I don't have any of the problems you're mentioning like having to download text messages? and Syning 45 times? I'm running gingerbread...

I'll prolly pay someone on craigslist to root mine.. everytime I check out cyanogen mod it seems too fuckin complex... and yea my phones basically a brick, i swear the 2.2 android update bricks old phones on purpose.. (i have a 2 yr old mytouch3g), but good thing is its coming out of contract right around the time tmobile launches the galaxy s2 next week (which has a faster processor than sprint's S2 ^^)

I'm curious about the nexus prime though, i might wait to see the specs on that before locking myself into another 2 year

My brother has the Droid Thunderbolt and said with gingerbread made a HUGE difference in performance. Charge is saying early 2012 until 2.3 will be available

Yeah, but honestly, the galaxy s2 has amazing reviews as it's been out in the UK for a bit now, to me it seems flawless and even if the Prime was higher specced I'll probably jump on the s2 next week

and I swear my phone knows its on the way out as it gets shittier by the minute....

Why would you buy a phone that is called "Charge", you should have known better that you'd need to always be charging it.

I have the Charge, I run Juice defender till I need to go online for something, then shut it off. It extends the life of the battery a lot
Carbon is not the problem, it makes up 0.041% of our atmosphere , 95% of that is from Volcanos and decomposing plants and stuff. So people in the US are responsible for 13% of the carbon in the atmosphere which 95% is not from Humans, like cars and trucks and stuff and they want to spend trillions to fix it while Solar Panel plants are powered by coal plants
              think about that

I bought the $10 one but always shuts off the mobile data. went on a forum and even wrote to the company and they responded back with they know its a problem and working on an update.

i have no issues with the S2 - the battery can even last almost a week, but only if you don't use it

I live my rooted phone running shabbymod.
I have it set to turn wifi on when GPS detect that I'm near my home or office, off otherwise.

Battery life IS a balance between the size of the phone and it's performance. Due to physics I don't think any phone can be much "better", only trade one thing for another, such as a lower power cell signal will save battery but reduce range. A brighter screen uses more battery, etc. I've.just gotten in the habit of charging every night while I sleep. I also often charge at my desk.

Perhaps you would like a Powermat or similar charger. You put the mat wherever you normally lay the phone down when you sleep or at your desk and it charges just from lying on the mat.

I definitely would NOT charge back unless the company you bought from clearly advertised much longer battery life than the phone is capable of. Chargebacks are for when somebody doesn't provide the product or service you purchased, not for when you change your mind and decide you don't want that product.

I bought it from an authorized dealer and they bs'd me from day 1. told me there was no activation fee, 4G hotspot came with the price plan (its an additional $30/mo) and I had a full 30 day refund. I came back in two weeks later and they told me I had to pay a $150 restocking fee, plus Verizon charges a fee on top of that.

I complained to Verizon but they said there is nothing they can do since its an AD and not a retail store.

Use to be when you bought a phone from a 3rd party, you had to take it to Verizon to have it activated and they did it for free, now Verizon charges for that, so I just got my Droid from them, I just wanted a droid, other than the battery life, no complaints really.

I was wanting a price for something that was on clearence, I used my phone and it scaned the correct price, while a worker stood by in disbelief with his bar code scanner

I have a droid2 and although the battery life does suck, im online all day long and i get a solid 8 hours on it, I dont have to worry about syncing or anything of the sorts since its just online all day long, so it might just be a problem with juice defender, I do run tasker which I have set to turn off gps and dim the battery to the minimum when im not using the screen for anything longer than 5 secs.
It used to be rooted before I had the gingerbread update, now is not and Im still getting the same battery life.

Android is of course Linux, and I've been a Linux admin for many years, so I wanted root (admin) access to my phone. What did I use it for? Not much. I actually DID replace the system ROM with a modified version. The difference? Not much. Having root does let me use my phone as a wifi hotspot without extra fees, and more easily connect it to my VPN.

I actually DID replace the system ROM with a modified version. The difference? Not much. Having root does let me use my phone as a wifi hotspot without extra fees, and more easily connect it to my VPN.
why are there extra fees for wifi hotspots? on my S2 i just switch it on and it works - no fees - no root necessary

I'm running cyanogen on my old Droid and I love it. Honestly it's nothing special on the outside. I can install a few apps that require root but that's about it. The main reason I did it was because of the bullshit some manufacturers and/or carriers add to their phones like the recent HTC debacle.
                                            I like pie.

I rooted my Galaxy S (first one) so that I could install custom firmwares and lag fixes as out of the box 2.1 and 2.2 were awful. After upgrading to 2.3 I have not had a reason to root it as it performs great. I suggest you first try upgrading to 2.3, if its not out on your phone go to http://forum.xda-developers.com and find the forum for your phone and post there for tips, if there are custom firmwares or speed up mods available for your phone they will most like be developed by someone on that forum.

I think he means turning the phone into a hotspot not connecting to one. The US carriers seem to think that is a chargable extra. Cunts
