For my friend that was being a moron and downloading an illegal copy of Windows XP, I have this question from him: will SP1 install fuck up XP Corperate install, or is it safe to do? Anybody here done it?

Tell your "friend" that it wont install the servicepack if its a "known" warez version. The servicepack includes a list of CD-keys used in the known warez versions, when you try to install it, it says "blahblah . somthing wrong with Licens-ID blah blah..."Originally posted by Ace-Ace

There is a place on www.technet.com (ms site) where you can check if the customer have a warez version
Go Into regedit and check the following:

It depends if he used ones of the more common cd keys when he installed xp. If he used the key generator to get his cd key there will be no problem with sp1. There is also a way to change the cd key used when you first installed xp..just search google.Comment

If the windows was originally installed with one of the common cd keys that was going around when XP first came out, chances are SP1 will fuck all up.
There's a little program out there that can change the key on an already installed XP allowing you to load SP1 without a problem.Comment
