Droid Bionic vs Iphone 5

I'm about to pick up a new phone and I currently have a droid and I like it. I REALLY hate he battery life on the droid. It really SUCKS. I think apple has a great product, but the no playing of flash really pisses me off.

Does anyone here have a Driod Bionic? What are your thoughts on it?

I'd go with a Droid, the phones give you the option to replace the battery so you can actually carry around a spare battery (or 100s)

Your battery life is most likely not going to be better on the iPhone 5 and you won't be able to replace the battery neither.

I'd reconsider the 4G LTE version as well, being in the no 4G coverage areas will further reduce your battery life since the phone will repeatedly try and search for 4G signal.

Did you check out the droid 3 by Motorola ? It does everything the bionic does, got no 4G but longer battery lifetime + it got a full slide out qwerty keyboard. I got one about 2 months ago and works perfect with the exception that it does some random reboots

I almost forgot, the Droid3 takes sim cards as well and after 2 months of service Verizon will provide you the unlock code to put foreign simcards in it if you are traveling (no roaming fees)

I have to agree with this. And I think there are more droids users than iphone.. apparently. Never used a droid though I love my iphone.

In the end, do you want to choose the hardware that you like with whatever storage, screen size, battery size etc., at a price you are comfortable with, and use it they you want, or do you want Apple to make all the choices for you? There are hundreds of different Android devices, so you can check reviews and choose your device based on price, screen brightness, whatever matters to you. With Apple, they pick for you.

Took the words out of my mouth, I have to have a large screen. I'm 6'2 225 with large hands and the evo is perfect size for me to text. I'll purchase the Iphone 5 if it has a 4.3 as well.

you can turn off 4g/lte and just use 3g if you want...its an option in the Bionic... you have more options with android then you will ever have with the iphone

Hard to say, the official specs haven't been released on the ip5.

The OS, battery life, screen resolution and size of the phone, (slimmest) are all superior on the current ip4

The ram, processor, screen SIZE, hdmi out and flash are features that make the Bionic better.

If the ip5 gets a dual core and 1gb ram then it will clearly be better than the rest.

Android is evolving though, while right now the OS feels clunky and less refined compared to iOS, Ice cream, AKA Android 4.0 will be showing it's face soon, specifically the Google Nexus Prime. 4.0 is supposed to be a lot more fluid along with the nice features that Android already offers like flash and widgets.

Something to keep in mind about flash, in some way apple is right. It really is a piece of shit software. It creates so many security vulnerabilities and it's a total resource hog, running flash based apps dramatically reduces battery life on mobile phones.

I don't miss flash at all on my iphone, youtube, hulu, porn sites, they all work so why fuck around with flash?

You really need to use both to appreciate all the subtle refinements that comes with iPhones.

Androids still feel clunky compared to iOS. Select text and it lags and selects blocks of words, where with iOS it's so incredibly smooth rolling across each letter with your finger. Pinching and zooming, scrolling, same. The iOS is incredibly fluid and responsive, where you can feel the lag, hesitation with Android.

Then there is the battery life, the iPhone is insanely efficient compared to every Android phone by a huge margin. Not sure if it's the actual battery or how well Apple has optimized their software to consume as little resources as possible. Start multitasking on the EVO or Droid and it just becomes absolutely ridiculous.

Then there is the screen resolution. The IP4 has a resolution of 960X640 on a 3.5inch screen which = 326dpi

Androids 4.3inch screens have a resolution of 800X480 which = 216dpi

The text is incredibly sharp on the ip4, the screens are nice on the Android phones but again you really need to play with both to appreciate just how sharp the display on the iP4 is.

Then there is the size, the IP4 is quite a bit slimmer than the rest. That's really here nor there though, the Androids fit in my pocket fine.

That being said, there are features I like on the Android over iOS. Widgets definitely being one of them. The filesystem is another, (I hate having to use iTunes to synch my phone). The custom ability is also nice. It's only a matter of time before Android catches up, but IMO, they aren't there yet.

I have the Bionic and I love it.

The phone is snappy and responsive to every move you make, the 4G is great and if you haven't looked into Zumocast yet, go ahead. At first when I set it up, I thought it was just allowing me to access videos, music and files while I was close to my home network. I was shocked when I tried to access my computer from across town and found that I could access anything on my hard drive through the 4G. One of the most awesome things I've ever seen a phone do.

The camera on the iPhone will undoubtedly be better because they always are -- the Bionic camera is average at best. The battery life isn't great, but not as bad as I expected.

Oh, the 1080p video camera rocks, and you can stream it to an hDTV through a mini hdmi port on the phone.

I've played with iPhones quite a bit, usually helping my dumb inlaws when they have a problem using theirs, and it seems like a good phone-- but I just hate the cult mentality of Apple users.

I was having some dinner with about 10 people, and it looked like a damn iPhone convention. Every single person at the table had their iPhone out, like a bunch of drones, and they could not even be bothered to check out the Bionic. It was like a "ehh, whatever, it's not an iPhone" attitude. Most of these people are technically retarded, so maybe that phone works for them.

We dumped Verizon last week for Sprint because I got tired of the games they play with billing... had the same contract and my monthly bill somehow grew from $156 to $226 magically over some months and I have never had overage. I got nothing but bullshit from customer service.

I got a higher minute plan with Sprint plus we can call any domestic mobile phone for free... my monthly bill is now $168.

We each got Motorola Photon's which are similar to the bionic. I think the bionic has 1080p video capture vs 720p on the photon. The display on both phones is 960x540 (not 800x480 as Nethorse said). Both have a 1Ghz Dual Core Tegra processor and 1GB Ram. They both have 16GB Internal memory and an SD slot. I have a 32GB card in mine. The photon is a world phone and the bionic is not.

I shut off 4G when I am not using data and my phone will last about a day and a half without a charge if I am on the phone for a couple of hours a day. Without talking much it will last 2 full days.

I agree that Android isn't quite as fast and smooth as iOS. There is a fundamental reason for that... iOS and all of it's applications are written in Objective C. The great majority of applications on Android are written in Java... any reasonable developer will openly admit that a compiled C program certainly runs faster than Java. However, the drawback for Objective C is longer development cycle. Add Apple's rigorous review process and you have a broken application market. The beauty of Android is it's free market model.

If you turn off 4G when you aren't using it you can expect to get a full day +. There is widget for that... basically a button on one of your seven "desktops". On my Thunderbolt, which has notoriously bad battery life, I easily got more than a day of battery life by shutting off data when I wasn't using it.

That's one tiny example of many all about open standards versus proprietary Apple. You can also transfer files by FTP or any other standard method, but EVERYTHING about Android is standards based, while Apple is all about vendor lock in.
That's fine if you happen to be in love with everything Apple does.

also, the droid can become a mobile hotspot for your laptop, so there's no need for a stand alone data card. droid also allows for zumocast, which allows you to browse, download, stream files from your desktop computer over the innerweb. removable memory cards for additional storage.

Make sure you condition the battery right and you should be fine.

I had an HTC Incredible that I had to get the extended battery for. I had an issue and after 5 factory replacements in a week, they gave me a DROIDX. I get 8-9 hours of constant use using it pretty much as a tab + a few hours of calls.

I get my yearly upgrade in six weeks. Was going to go with an iPhone but after a few days having this DROIDX I realized I am happy with droid.

I went from 3 iphones with att with a monthly total of $217USD to 3 Motorola Triumph with Virgin Mobile for a monthly total of $75USD. I love these phones just as much as the iphone and they do everything i need them too. The only differnce for me is the 142 bucks a month is save and the internet is much faster with virgin the att. I have had 0 issue with battery life as well. Have had them for 3 months and i typically get 3-4 days out of a charge.

I'm not. I have my evo 3d its fast as hell and I love it. That being said, I would still say iOS is smoother and more refined in a ton of small ways. So if they could offer the screen size I would switch. What I'm actually hoping for is that the droid will catch up on the small details that bug me right now. I would much rather stick with my droid if I had a choice.

The app store has more than twice the available apps, so who cares?

It has Opera, Firefox and a host of other browsers but Safari outperforms them all, so again, why change it?

It plays nearly every video file unless it's likely from an insignificant site. It opens a quicktime player with html5, which is supported on any site I browse. It's 10times more fluid than piece of shit flash that drains battery life and runs like absolute shit.

The iPhone is the cleanest OS, with the most available apps, most battery life, highest resolution screen, least amount of bugs, most secure, (no open source apps put out there by anyone with NO quality control), slimmest design, etc.

As far as I'm concerned, the Android phones with oversized inferior screens and insignificant features like flash support which make battery life absolute garbage, video hdmi outs, a painted plastic hard shell, an buggy OS that can't do basic things as fluid as iOS is what makes it a toy rather than a productive smartphone.
