    Akismet, good rules like "must have at least one approved comment "and then manually reviewing new comments regularly. Also, if the commenters link looks like shit, I reject the comment no matter how good it is.

    I've disabled commenting on all of my adult sites. I have yet to see a comment that was really worth a shit on an adult site. All of my comments were something like "so hot", "moar please", "bitch is ugly", "why you post so much dick, fagget". Mainstream is marginally better.

                    you could add a math equation to your comment form, or even block no refers for comments, usally they send no refer if they are using a commenting desktop app like scrapebox or xrumer, etc.

                    something like this maybe?

                    Code:
                    RewriteEngine On
                    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_METHOD} POST
                    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} .wp-comments-post\.php*
                    RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !.*yourblog.com.* [OR]
                    RewriteCond %{HTTP_USER_AGENT} ^$

                        set akismet to auto-delete after 30 days...

                        needs to have another comment. needs to be moderated...

                        once every two weeks I make my rounds and update wordpress, plugins, etc... perhaps play with the widgets order...

                        then check the comments and 80% are spam.... but since I spend about 1 to 2 hours a month on it, it ain't no big deal

                          I put a blog up and I get comments in like a day..how are the spammers finding me so quickly?

                          How do you manage many blogs at once? Spam is out of control on mine.

                            I have an extremely simple process... I have my blogs set up, so as when someone enters a comment, instead of it being published, or place in a moderation queue, an email is sent to them automatically, requesting that they send full ID scan copies and SS number etc, via snail mail, to my postal box address...

                            When I receive the details, and double check them, I allow them the privilege of having their inane and no doubt retarded comment, be published on my supremely excellent blog...

                            Simples...

                                      You do realize that you have no legal right to ask for as SSN and that you can be prosecuted for just asking?

                                      Not to mention what you can do with the obivously personal and priveleged information that you are harvesting.

                                      I think there is more to your post than meets the eye.

                                      "Must I provide a Social Security number (SSN) to any business or government agency that asks?
                                      The SSN was originally devised to keep an accurate record of each individual’s earnings, and to subsequently monitor benefits paid under the Social Security program. However, use of the Social Security number as a general identifier has grown to the point where it is the most commonly used and convenient identifier for all types of record-keeping systems in the United States.

                                      Specific laws require a person to provide his or her SSN for certain purposes. While we cannot give you a comprehensive list of all situations where an SSN might be required or requested, an SSN is required or requested by the following organizations:

                                      Internal Revenue Service for tax returns and federal loans;
                                      Employers for wage and tax reporting purposes;
                                      Employers enrolled in E-Verify;
                                      States for the school lunch program;
                                      Banks for monetary transactions;
                                      Veterans Administration as a hospital admission number;
                                      Department of Labor for workers’ compensation;
                                      Department of Education for Student Loans;
                                      States to administer any tax, general public assistance, motor vehicle or drivers license law within its jurisdiction;
                                      States for child support enforcement;
                                      States for commercial drivers’ licenses;
                                      States for Food Stamps;
                                      States for Medicaid;
                                      States for Unemployment Compensation;
                                      States for Temporary Assistance to Needy Families; or
                                      U.S. Treasury for U.S. Savings Bonds

                                      The Privacy Act regulates the use of SSNs by government agencies. When a federal, state, or local government agency asks an individual to disclose his or her SSN, the Privacy Act requires the agency to inform the person of the following: the statutory or other authority for requesting the information; whether disclosure is mandatory or voluntary; what uses will be made of the information; and the consequences, if any, of failure to provide the information.

                                      If a business or other enterprise asks you for your SSN, you can refuse to give it. However, that may mean doing without the purchase or service for which your number was requested. For example, utility companies and other services ask for an SSN, but do not need it; they can do a credit check or identify the person in their records by alternative means.

                                      Giving your SSN is voluntary, even when you are asked for the number directly. If requested, you should ask why your SSN is needed, how your number will be used, what law requires you to give your number and what the consequences are if you refuse. The answers to these questions can help you decide if you want to give your Social Security number. The decision is yours."

                                      But if you give your SSN to an asshole like this, you deserve what you get.

                                                    "Must I provide a Social Security number (SSN) to any business or government agency that asks?
                                                    The SSN was originally devised to keep an accurate record of each individual?s earnings, and to subsequently monitor benefits paid under the Social Security program.

                                                    Internal Revenue Service for tax returns and federal loans;
                                                    Employers for wage and tax reporting purposes;
                                                    Employers enrolled in E-Verify;
                                                    States for the school lunch program;
                                                    Banks for monetary transactions;
                                                    Veterans Administration as a hospital admission number;
                                                    Department of Labor for workers? compensation;
                                                    Department of Education for Student Loans;
                                                    States to administer any tax, general public assistance, motor vehicle or drivers license law within its jurisdiction;
                                                    States for child support enforcement;
                                                    States for commercial drivers? licenses;
                                                    States for Food Stamps;
                                                    States for Medicaid;
                                                    States for Unemployment Compensation;

                                                    You assumed he is governed by US law. Far from it. The US deported him a few years ago but that's another story.

                                                    Check UK/EU law and waste your time doing a full write up on that

                                                        Someone needs to make a plugin for Thunderbird (and all the other mail clients) where you can download all your WP comments into your email client and it syncs with your blogs.
