Formula one racing technology, they can build engines by tipping a powder into a machine, no idea how it works but they say it will be come common practice in 10-15 years!
Stereo Lithography , 3-D printing, has been around since at least 1993. In design school I did a project where they took one of my 3-d designs and created the actual object in resin off a "3-D printer". General Motors has been using this technology for over 10 years to test engine parts. The only difference now is that we are actually really close to have this as a household item. Epson has been working on a below $1000 one that should hit the market in the next 18 months.
The fact that it has moving parts is incredible, but I find it hard to believe it produced internal structures for them without some autocad work. That was probably left on the cutting room floor for several reasons.
Very fake.. the scanner they use are obviously laser.. so it would only "see" the surfer.. and there's several angles of that wrench that the laser would never reach..
Also, what happened to the hole in the handle.. that got replaced by some sort of wire or something.

lol FAKE!!!! They cant print out "mechanism" of a tool jesus, lol!
Ok to make 3d stuff replica of look, but to use it after it, jez
Nothing that would need to be able extensive amounts of heat or friction no, however you would be very surprised how many thing this could replicate AND be useable. There are many different types of polymers, nylons that can handle intense heat and many recipes of different plastics. Some corn based plastics are as hard as aluminum.
Not new technology but if there are plans to make a home version there are many possibilities.
It would really depend on not only the machine cost but also if the machine can complete each task in an acceptable time, in addition to the cost of resins and powders.
But, considering there are many items in the home that don't need extreme strength or even internal parts (like crockery for ex) there has to be a market for home use.

of course, Gideon will want to timeshift almost everything he owns (and doesn't own) but, thats another issue.
cool of the dude to come back and explain how it was fake

Someday (long after we are all dead) these will be in every home and everything you can buy at the store now will be printed out. You think the music piracy fight is dramatic? Imagine product piracy in 300 years.
They've got the material cost down to about $3.00 per cu.in. and I've been discussing with a couple of local companies about setting up a small business for their mold making!
My local high school has 3 of these. One of them is almost 10 years old. You feed a CAD drawing into it and it builds it out over a few hours. It can do moving parts and even ball bearings.
Its old tech, i used this in my design work in 1997 the finish is not great but its good for prototyping stuff . I even have a patent for a clip i designed in 1998, i used this type of 3D printer to make prototypes for photography and the patent lawyers.
