    Setting up an SMS server

Has anyone in here had any experience with setting up an SMS server? This has to do with something I'm working on with a mainstream website.

I've got 2 choices of software, Kannel and Ozeki. The first being open source and the second being enterprise. I've got the rudiments down, just wondering for advice.

    It's a longshot but....

use a external service, cheaper and faster. Only when you have enough traffic like a 100k sms a day its time to look for your own sms gateway.

That makes sense. During the years we have a lot of experience with our SMS gateway platform, but it's really a tough job to deal with all carrier connectivity issues, audits and short code rules. In the end you just pay a few cents per message. Keep in mind that you keep the ownership of a short code and not the gateway. This will keep you in control in moving your short code to a different gateway when his service s#cks.
