Computer gurus in here please?

Hey guys, I need some help. My daughter got a new MSI all in one pc for Christmas and she kept telling me she was out of space on it, which I knew wasn't right as it has like a 750GB drive on it. I found out after looking at it that she has only 68GB on the C Drice and the rest on the D Drive. I want to know if there is a way to move the majority of the space from the D Drive to the C Drive without formatting it again? I formatted it and thought I could rearrange it that way, but no option ever came up for me to do this, which I found odd.

Does anyone know how this is done, or if I can move it to the C Drive without formatting it? I managed to get most all of it unallocated on the D Drive, but that's as far as my little brain can manage. lol

You could use PartitionMagic for this task with 90% probability of success and 10% probability of data loss

Bootable PartitionMagic can be found in one of the older HirenBoot cds

yes, 100% possible.

your single drive is partitioned (I hate when this is done) and as long as you dont care about lossing EVERYTHING on "drive D" you will be good.

however, I would strongly recommend backing up the computer FIRST as sometimes errors happen.

Yeah she hasn't put anything on the D Drive at all, so no loss is going to happen there. I tried to teach her how to use it that way, but she just isn't getting her head around that, so I wanted to just get it all on the C Drive for her.

I hate it too, if I want another drive, I'll go buy one. lol But never seen a pc put the biggest space on the D Drive and not the C. The C seems to barely have enough to run Windows, much less her photoshop and other graphics programs she uses. She is into graphics, so she needs all the space she can get.

I am looking at this link, if this works, boss, I will owe you big.

I've also hunted down partition magic if this doesn't work for me.

Who ever set it up didn't partition it correctly. You need to back it up then format and reinstall Windows or whatever OS you had. You can fix it, but it's going to take a while and an external HD. Much quicker to just format.

It was factory formatted like that, which is what I find so damn odd. I formatted it and tried to go in and format it while setting it back up, but that didn't work either. This system is something I've never dealt with I guess... it's very umm...... bossy. lol

this can be done with partition magic or other 3rd party apps.,

but imo 68 gb is enough for c,
use c for OS and apps and keep all ur data at d.,
so if something goes wrong just wipe c reinstall os and ur good to go again, no data loss at all.
with windows there is always something wrong....

a lot of computers nowdays don't come with install cds anymore but the os and factory shit in one small drive and the other drive for files, programs, media etc. Im surprised if you try to go into the drive from windows it doesnt give you some type of warning.

When you say you formatted it do you mean you just popped in the disk and hit reinstall or something? You need to backup everything to an external, boot from CD and delete both the partitions (C:\ and D:\) then make a new partition and install Windows to it. You could also use the build in Windows disk manager to just shrink the D:\ partition and expand C:\

My asus netbook came with a 160gb hdd, in roughly 70gb, 70gb, and 10gb partitions. The third small partition is for recovery, and it overwrites the first partition. Second partition is for your data, but I put freebsd on it. That way if your computer gets fucked up with malware or whatever you can make it new again and still save your data.

I am usually pretty damn good with these things, but this one has been driving me crazy.

As far as running programs on the C Drive, this isn't really doable, she uses a lot of graphics programs and that alone eats up the majority of it and then her games and things like that, there just isn't room for those on there the way it is.

this can do it without reformatting, but it's good to have to partitions. Maybe teach her to use both?

I think you can do it with almost any of partition managers in windows, but there's always a chance for a data loss.
Not a big chance though.
