I did the same a few months ago. If you actually want a good script that is not going to be hacked or fall apart, you are going to spend some money... high $x,xxx to low $xx,xxx range.

I talked to two people who have one setup and running and spent in the neighborhood of $20k - $30k to get up and going. Took only a few months and they are profitable, but requires some money up front

not off hand. I got a few quotes from companies I found online and most started around low $x,xxx but the ones you really want are going to be high $x,xxx as they have a ton of mods and add-ons you can do.

when you start off the site, you dont want people winning $2,000 TVs for $.30 so you need bots to raise the bid prices until you break even. yeah i know, cheating but ALL those sites do it, thats how they make money

I hate to say it, but I think the Penny Auction horse has well and truly bolted. Some jurisdictions are legislating them out of existence now due to consumer fraud issues.

There are alot of companies selling these scripts, almost none of them are worth the up to $2000 they ask for them. A custom solution is the way to go. I think to really have a good shot at getting one of these off the ground you'd need to invest $10k +

I know someone with a script, custom developed and not cheap. It would totally depend. The real deal ones arent floating around available for sale on sites.

So you also need to figure a cash reserve to cover .30 cent television winners?

Exactly the same as, yet completely unlike, Ebay.

Yep, it sad but a LOT of sites use those kind of cheats. I talked to a few people and even software vendors and they showed me some of the "tricks" of the trade.
