    Article Submissions / Press Releases

I am not an expert and I'm trying to get more back links to a mainstream site I have.

What is the best way to submit articles to PR websites that really pass PR.

Not the ones that nobody visits and google doesn't give a shit about.

Let's try to help a GFY member here and help educate the people like me!

I don't mind outsourcing this, last time I did it wasn't cheap and a lot of the articles were submitted to sites that had zero traffic and probably helped with inbound links.

Prweb is a good one to use, prweb.com
I have used it for our clients before and they have an increase in sales.

They have plan which submits to premier news outlets through our Press Association partnership.

Do it yourself. If you don't want to do it manually then get into a program like Ultimate Demon which does it for you. You don't even have to buy the program just rent it for a couple months to make sure you like it.

Press releases are tricky - there are a ton of companies out there that will release one for you, but most of them don't have any presence and are a waste of money.

PRWeb is great, and will cost you $200 a pop, but they actually distribute to the AP, Google, etc.

The problem is that a press release doesn't mean anything if no one is picking it up, so you need to make sure that whoever you use is in turn used by the outlets you are targeting.

200 a pop for a damn press release? Are the backlinks worth that much?

Well, I guess it really depends...the real value is in the visibility, and who picks up the release. That is the biggest difference between pay PR sites like PRWeb and the free alternatives - distribution network. It boils down to your cost for attracting new customers and the value of a semi-qualified lead in your pipeline.

I know a lot of people who put out a release every time they sneeze, but that's not me. I generally put out a big one on launch - either new company or new product, and anytime after that when we get either a new big partner or new big customer. Things that actually matter if people happen across them and read them. This is speaking about mainstream business of course - adult is a different ballgame.

Depending on the nature of your business, you might have much better luck submitting to trade publications or another approach. We have paid a few times for someone to write an article for an industry-specific trade publication and it actually generated quite a few qualified leads. If you are seriously just looking for backlinks, there are probably more efficient ways to do it than press releases though.
