i think with the amount of advertisers here now, its almost mandatory to have some "stand out" - and by standing out, I do mean audio...
its logical at least.

I disagree, repectfully of course.
Two problems exist with sound banners, in my opinion:
1) Marketing saturation. They have worn through the original shock value and luster. In fact, I am now trained to immediately react and shut down GFY whenever sound cuts off my iTunes. Thing is, I can't tell you whose banner it is that plays the rap song, not sure who it is that has the message from god, nor do I know who that screaming one is from. I don't have a clue as to whose programs they are. Fact.
I am fully aware that I may not well represent the masses.
2) They interupt my music. Personal thing.
I doubt any advertiser would cancel GFY because of a no sound policy. Other boards have a no sound policy and their boards are growing with advertisers. GFY is huge, people want to be here, it is not a tough sell. It does not have to come with a free "waffle maker in addition to for $19.95."
I make banners without sound. In fact, I made a post the other day as to who even looks at Flash around here anymore because I am pretty much lost on whether I can do it or not anymore. I want people to see our banners, but I am not going to compete in a bad, over-saturated, sound marketing campaign to do it. I actually consider those people surfing the board. I have never even produced a banner with nudity.
Hey, that is just my opinion, nothing against the sound programs. Whatever works. Basic business logic.
