I think it's simple if you're not smart enough to have owned and used one or to understand benefits or advantages then you don't need to be using a mac anyway
I have a computer science degree from a reputable school, try again. I bet the % of electronically challenged people are far higher within the Mac users vs. PC
You are funny. I designed and supervised installation of large data network installations for most of the School Districts in AZ, the Dept of Education and numerous Cities and Counties in multiple States. I taught Data Networking at both Community College and University level.
I just know a better thing for our applications when I see one. Formatting, reinstalling an OS and applications on Windows takes time. Restoring data takes time, dealing with viruses takes time, add on software needed to secure Windows costs time and money and my time is valuable. I prefer to use it earn money.
Install Linux
"There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die." -Hunter S. Thompson
G5 isn't exactly in the same league as x86 processors. G5 is a professional computer, and not every schmoe needs one or can afford one. I'm pretty sure dual cpu G5 will rip apart fastest dual xeons in most professional tasks.
We are talking about different products, for different needs.
Also, mac os, is a souped-up version of unix, it provides power/security/stability of a unix based system with somewhat comparable compatibility of windows. (runs photoshop, plus dozens other common programs)
Saying mac os x sucks, is like saying unix based systems suck, as mac os x is a unix system + more.
I guess you have to look at what you require instead of just
specs. All the other bullshit is litteraly bullshit. I run
Microsoft on my workstation. I have never ever had a bluescreen
of death nor a crash of the OS. It's proper installed and not fucked
around with......yes it's behind a firewall but so are all my machines no matter WHAT OS they run.
I use an old Sillicon Graphics box with risk processors running
IRIX for video encoding
I use linux for webservers, freebsd for database servers and
openbsd for the firewall box. Whenever I work with sound....
I use apple...
Personaly the thing I lack most off apple is there is no command
line interface.....old skool people like me hate the mouse..it takes
way too much time....if I want to move stuff on my disk I want
to use command line, not drag and drop and 36 times clicking
before I get my ass in the correct path.....it's my machine I know
where I put stuff...

I'm pretty sure you can pull up a "command line interface" in Mac OS X.
How long is that computer you build yourself going to last, lol
about a week? Case always open, wires hanging everywhere. You have to unplug the CD burner to make your firewire work. No thanks.
Here is what a real computer looks like.
OSX is built off a FreeBSD kernel and can pull a *NIX style CLI, Also the architecture and gear of macs is a different userbase. Intel/x86 architecture also has its niche market. Im waiting for the dual opterons to rock up proper... 64bit AMD running Fbsd.... *nuts*
hey if you have employees what would you rather have them working on a mac or pc?With the pc you have to constantly make sure he is not dowloading stuff he shouldn't.Onthe mac those files will not affect the computer

Bigdog, Id have them all running my my own custom window manager on fbsd or slackware... 100% productivity, 100% complience with Office thanks to Open Office, and 100% forced compliency, higher stability and benchmarks, and none of the artsy crap

I forgot to mention (also I havent looked into it in a while) but I had a buddy who could take over full networks of macs with applescript alone ;)

My winxp doesn't crash every 5 mins, infact it hardly ever crashes, and get a decent firewall and you won't have to worry about having viruses. And the reason macs don't have viruses is probably cause they own barely 4% of the computer PC market.
Win2000 and XP made the whole (crash less) agurment bullshit. Macs probably hang as much as win2000 does. in otherwords neither hang much at all.
Try the New XMovies.com and make more $$$ with your Traffic

As i said before less market share is a good thing So the hackers and vrius writers are not focusing on you

Last one lasted about a year before i wanted to upgrade to something twice as fast, which only cost me like $600
I have a cool ass case, and its not open
I dunno what you're talking about firewire, It works fine.
I've recently ordered P4 2.4Ghz (which will be overclocked to a even higher speed) for $170, a kickass mobo for $147 and 1gig of ddr400 ram for $170. How much does it cost you to upgrade from G4 to G5?
U had such a great job, then why the hell are you here?
Pervert!
Did u get fired for surfing porn?
LOL, read "retired professional" I have a few more years under my belt than you do. I also prefer the hours in this business and the money is better too.
Funny thing about this entire discussion is that I spent many years bashing Mac's to school districts. The essential difference now is the OS X is Free BSD with a MAC GUI and is the best desktop OS on the market today.
You might all want to remember both Apple and Microsoft stole the GUI and the mouse from Xerox. Apple has done a better job on a OS because they started with a rock solid OS platform BSD. Microsoft is stuck with their DOS beginings and DOS nevr did compare very well to Unix.
Apple hardware is more expensive so what. My Jaguar is more expensive than my VW and I prefer the Jaguar for long rides and comfort.

I was just fucking with you man. All this shit will be obsolete in a few years anyway. In fact just this morning I designed an entire operating system based on UML concepts that will blow your fucking mind.

so you picked Mac only because of the OSX
again, for the third time,i meant to post this thread about hardware
all operating systems are evolving, and who knows which one will be the best next year..
But apple will be cleary using more and more hardware from other manufacturers, put them in a case with a nice design and sell it for 3x what its worth, plus wont give the option to the users to install another OS they want. They will be going down the shitter when some more PC operating systems and software come out.
By the way, I bet your VW's and your Jaguar's parts don't cost the same to the manufacturer, not a good analogy.
I paid about $3,400 for my 17" apple laptop in May. I don't fucking regret it at all. Matter of fact I've convinced quite a few of my diehard PC using friends to switch to Mac's. Now they are swearing how they would never switch back.
I can't imagine why PC users feel the need to bring up the Mac issue all the time.
My laptop WORKS. Plain and simple. I do not have downtime, it sets up in a breeze. I use it as a work machine. I don't have time to configure it every time something changes.

I bought one too - the way I see it I have to work on a computer for too fucking long anyway, at the very least I can get something I would enjoy, at least a little.
However it's my company, everybody else in the studio works on Dells or something, (one has bought his own Ti laptop).
They are expensive, I completely understand why you would avoid them if you're some hack coder, why fucking bother? Equally if all you do is submit shit galleries, it makes no sense to invest the few pennies you've got like that. It would be like living in a trailer, with a fucking BMW outside.
