Good places online to buy desktop PC?

    Recommendations?
I moved my sites to Vacares Hosting. I've saved money, my hair is thicker, lost some weight too! Thanks Sly!

If I bought a computer on the internet I'd probably buy a dell or something.

I usually use price-comparison-sites. Pick up the parts I want from ~2-3 different stores and assemble it.
You'll save a lot of money and get the parts you want.

Buy parts and put it together in an hour or two. I buy from Amazon and NewEgg.

          Spend you some brain.

I know there are many reasons I shouldn't be using Amazon, but I did, and I'm happy!

I was going to build a custom one for the local village hall, but when all was said and done, it was just cheaper and easier for them to buy a dell direct...

You can get a DELL with better specs for less money buying it direct from them, than buying the same model at Best Buy.

If the computer becomes damaged, the only thing Best Buy does for your customer support purchase with them, is box it up and send it to Dell.....which you can do the same thing at your house by simply contacting dell for a box to ship.

                      I use bestbuy.com, newegg,com, tigerdirect.com, microcenter.com, and frys.com to research whats out there.
Once I find the model I like I go to youtube to see if theres a review of it.
Then I look for the model in google and see who has it cheapest. Sometimes Walmart or Sears etc will have the same machine even cheaper.
The last computer I bought was on newegg, really excellent website with high standards.

I once bought a computer at the BestBuy store and then when I took it home I saw it was $50 cheaper if I bought it on BestBuy.com website. I was pissed lol.

I second the newegg or tigerdirect recommendation. I ordered this PC from Newegg one day and the next day it was already on my doorstep. I really don't know how they did that, but shipping times can't be better than that. Lots of good reviews on there too to read before you buy.

Do not buy premade PC. Usually they put cheaper parts in it. Instead pick up the parts and order assembly service. Usually most of the shops (online or not) do that.

If you don't mind used I find the best bang for your buck can be found on ebay. You can get multi-processor workstations with 8 cores for under $300. You can get a usable quad core for ~$100. It's especially good for Linux enthusiasts as many come with no OS installed so you don't pay extra for something you won't be using.

For new I'd try Amazon or NewEgg.

You don't like my posts? Put me on ignore or fuck right off. I'll say what I want.

Build your own PC with parts from NewEgg. Ready made PCs like Dell are preloaded with subsidized software that runs in the background and impacts performance.

Once you've opened up a Dell PC or similar and then compared the quality, performance and capacity of those internal parts with what you could have had for the same price building your own, you wont buy pre-made again.

They have to make a profit on their machines after all.

Digital storm has good custom built systems.

You can also design one the site and just buy the parts yourself to save a few hundred bucks.

I second (or third) the build your own approach. Takes pretty minimal technical knowledge these days - plug in the components, connect the mobo wires - and you will thank yourself for spending a few hours doing this when you've got a desktop with high quality reliable components and way better specs than a prebuilt system for the same $$$.

Either way, Newegg is still where it's at.

If you decide to build your own, buy an aluminum case. Compared to steel cases, heat will dissipate from your box more easily. This means your PC's internal temps are lower and that will help increase the reliability and lifetime of your components. Plus, aluminum cases look better than steel cases.
