.xxx is overpriced , but your analogy isn't very accurate. A surfer has little concept of what purpose a tld serves or cares what tld they are on , other than remembering the site name..

.com by default is going to be the best tld because more people know about it, so whatever domain you have inevitably a surfer will use .com by mistake..

Some tld's like .info have a reputation for having cheap sites because they are cheap domains, but other than the obvious tld's ( .edu , .com) to a surfer all domains are the same.

The only ones who would see .xxx as swampland are adult webmasters

google has already said .xxx will be seen as equal to .com there is no difference in traffic. If we both started gis7fyifiu.com and .xxx we would both get roughly the same traffic if we both had the same content ( in theory ).

One benefit to .xxx will be if we had the same content i get one more word in the description being .XXX means porn .COM doesn't mean anything. This detail while very small will likely result in my site getting more clicks from google and thus move up the ranking above you , thus increasing clicks even more.
