I'm the one who first experimented with the concept. My reasoning was simply that, by adding the Amazon wish lists, the girls would be more inclined to re-tweet. I was correct, as the re-tweet rate was higher than average, but it led to 0 conversions after getting something like 20 retweets by girls who had a total of 300-400K followers. Along with the the wish lists, each post had one photo gallery, a VOD link, and a few of their wish list items highlighted alongside my commentary. Total waste of time which is why I thought it was kind of funny when the idea was copied.

Débutant Of The Year Tournament - Launched Late November
A March Madness/World Cup bracket style tournament which started with 32 porn stars and ended with one champion (Lily Carter). The idea was that most of the girls would repeatedly lobby for votes. I did see a jump in traffic, and got some decent linkbacks and publicity, but it had a minimal effect on sales.

The only time it's been successful for me was when I launched my site and it was total luck. Really just the perfect storm. I launched in conjunction with the end of the World Cup because I was doing The World Cup of Porn. It was an unmonetized wordpress.com website that was really just meant to be a lead in to the launch. During the WCOP, I was able to get several guest posts from various porn stars, one of which was from Bobbi Eden. When she did the Team BJ thing and got all of those new followers, she had them vote for her on my website. As the Cup ended and I launched the site (which was initially selling an $8 porn star database loaded with affiliate coded links), I was able to make some quick money. The backend of the plan didn't workout as planned, but I did OK that first few weeks.

With that being said, it's highly unlikely that anything like that would ever happen again.It would come off as a cheap imitation. lol

Not to mention that a large part of the reason it worked for her so well is b/c she's Dutch and the Dutch have a history of disappointing results at the WC.
