Big surprise!! You giving an opinion without reading?? No Way!!I like the presidents speech, but it should have been the truth, something like
"the war is bigger than any one man or woman, it's bigger than the president, it's about my ego! Just shows more proof how thin skinned he is
Although knowing about the UCMJ and that shouldn't be tolerated, he did a damn good job over there and Obama should have handled it differently. I haven't read the Rolling Stone article, but heard on the news it really wasn't that bad.
As far as the resignation, I'm sure he was asked to resign, which is the same as being fired
Anti-Obama until the end huh?
Nobody who read that FULL article would keep McChrystal.

LIke I said before, we shouldn't be there. I thought the president said he was pulling out the troops? In 18 months, I traveled underwater enough distance to go around the world, so I don't know why we are still there.

It has nothing to do with the Pres. being "thin skinned". When will you guys figure this out? Speaking as a lowly ex-Specialist from 1st Infantry, I can tell you with full confidence that the people in the military are taught from Day 1, not only to take & carry out orders, but to respect their superiors and most definitely not publicly mock them. So what does that tell us?I like the presidents speech, but it should have been the truth, something like
"the war is bigger than any one man or woman, it's bigger than the president, it's about my ego! Just shows more proof how thin skinned he is

1. General McChrystal was well aware of that.
2. The soldiers he commands look to him for leadership. If he's opposed to the Pres.' war strategy, what are the ground troops supposed to do? This is a distraction they do not need and a decision they should never have to make.
3. The US has always been commanded by civilian leadership. The military works for us. Even 4 Star Generals don't get to usurp that. This General has fucked up more than once, and been warned, more than once.
4. What kind of message does it send to our enemies when the General in charge of the theater disagrees with the President? I'll tell you... it makes us weak.
And for the record, I disagree with the Pres. too. I think we need to get the fuck out of Afghanistan. But it's not going to happen.

http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/news/17390/119236How'd I get screwed into going to this dinner?" demands Gen. Stanley McChrystal.
"The dinner comes with the position, sir," says his chief of staff, Col. Charlie Flynn.
McChrystal turns sharply in his chair.
"Hey, Charlie," he asks, "does this come with the position?"
McChrystal gives him the middle finger.

Nowhere in the Rolling Stone piece does McChrystal challenge Obama on his policy or his strategy. Nowhere is he insubordinate. He is, everyone says, a marvelous military man (although, given his role in the cover-up of the friendly fire death of Cpl. Pat Tillman, the former NFL star, he is a bit of a liar, as well). But he has an impossible task: a war that cannot be won. If he doesn?t know it, then Staff Sgt. Kennith Hicks sure does.Carbon is not the problem, it makes up 0.041% of our atmosphere , 95% of that is from Volcanos and decomposing plants and stuff. What is this chart supposed to prove?
Part of Obama's platform was, he would draw down Iraq and pay more attention to Afghanistan. He was voted in. He won!
You can't send more troops into a region and expect LESS casualties.
I'm not sure what the point of this is.
If Obama pulls out of Afghanistan he will be crucified for it.
Too many people here think they have all of the fucking answers, yet none of them make a stitch of fucking sense.

General McCrystal came up via special operation forces...and they are a different breed of soldier and most of them never become a 4 star General. Apparently he was very good at special operations/black op's and it is clear that he should have been left in that role. It is unforunate for him and unforunate for the Army to lose him...over such BS...but for the role he was placed in by this President he needed to be fired...for stupidity if for no other reason. When you're running down my country hoss...you're walking on the fighting side of me!

so I'm interested to hear what the libs on this board think of the fact that Obama put General "Betray-us", (as Move-on.org and all the Libs called him), in command in Afghanistan now....
I'm truly curious to hear what you all think....

Does that mean it would have been OK for McChrystal to give Obama the finger?SPECIFICALLY, Article 88:
Contempt toward officials
"Any commissioned officer who uses contemptuous words against the President, the Vice President, Congress, the Secretary of Defense, the Secretary of a military department, the Secretary of Homeland Security, or the Governor or legislature of any State, Territory, Commonwealth, or possession in which he is on duty or present shall be punished as a court-martial may direct."Support American Heroes | How Bad is My Batch? | Vaccine Deaths & Adverse Reactions | Free Speech Coalition | <WARNING> ePayService / Guerra Capital, INC / MTACC payments | Flirt4Free Fucks their Affiliates | Don't do business with piece of shit Andy Alvarez from Webmaster Central / VR3000, who said:

The left hasn't been truly happy with Obama on MANY issues so far.
If you are a super left-wing liberal progressive, Obama has disappointed you time after time.
That said, they will all vote him back in in 2012, because as much as Obama has not gone left enough, he is still a more acceptable option than a republican.
It really just shows how much the right hates Obama. Even when he tries to appease the center, he is still called every name under the book.
He is an intelligent person, who actually THINKS before he acts. He will be re-elected.Last edited by BFT3K; 06-23-2010, 11:31 AM.Comment

What do you think of the fact that this guy that all the libs hated so much has just been appointed by Obama? Does it change your opinion of the General and all the lies he was accused of? Do you think that maybe he wasn't such a liar after all, and got a bum rap?
Or does it change your opinion of Obama? Do you have any sort of thoughts on the subject?
Inquiring minds....

I tend to agree. When the Taliban was overthrown and Al Qeada was disrupted...in short thrift... with very minimal losses...our forces should have been withdrawn. And I have to admit, I haven't been keeping up on the war, I have a total and complete distaste for it. I know it's stupid at this or any point, I don't care who got us there. It just needs to stop. And any delay is unacceptable.

The same thing applies to Iraq. When Bush landed on the carrier that flew the banner...Mission Accomplished...it had been accomplished. In 24 days Iraq's government had been toppled and its military basically destroyed...with minimal losses...and our forces should have been withdrawn.
Instead of withdrawing...we took on nation building in both countries...but the problem is we cannot afford to stay for the multiple generations it will require to build these nations and "win the hearts and minds" of the people.
At any point we pull out...now...or in the near future the countries will go to hell. When you're running down my country hoss...you're walking on the fighting side of me!

I can't speak for anyone but myself, but I never held any animosity towards General Petraeus, and I thought Move-On went too far with their portrayal of him.Which is a nice answer and all.... and I appreciate that everyone has the right to a position on any subject.... but it doesn't really answer my specific question.

A brilliant move by Obama however, as the right can't really bitch about this replacement without looking like hypocrites.Comment

my understanding was Petraeus was apart of central command that oversaw the entire middleeast region, and probably has a lot to do with the current US strategy with Isreal/Iran
i think he should have been used to deal with AfghanistanComment

I am not sure what you are talking about regarding move-on.org, but i have been follow Petraeus with great interest since he took over command of Iraq. Anything regarding surges and 'lies' is kinda crazy, since the strategy is as old as time itself, but i shall look it upComment
