Porn is a "crime" of opportunity. You need a number of factors to come together to enjoy porn and whack off...that includes time, location, and whether or not you are alone or not.
However you can smoke just about anywhere, drink in a lot of places, and if you're a gambler that's pretty much available anywhere now days.
During the summer time things occur that affect your ability to just sit at home and whack all day long.
It's warm out for one, so you're out enjoying the summer rather than sitting in front of the computer avoiding the winter cold.
Kids are home all day long. College kids who make up a good part of the customer base are at home too, and maybe not spending as much on porn.
Now look at smoking...it's summer time you're at the beach...you can smoke there...you can smoke in a park...you can smoke while out on your boat fishing...you can smoke at the amusement park you're at...etc...etc...etc.
You can replace a lot of that with drinking too. At the beach? Crack open a beer. Fishing? Same thing. At the park? Once again pass me a beer.
Now let's see some guy who's addicted to porn enjoy these same summer activities in the same manner as the smokers, and drinkers.
Now let's look at gambling. 20+ years ago, there were very few places you could gamble at legally. Everyone went to either Vegas or AC, now days, no matter where you live you are just a drive away from gambling.
If they don't have table games, then you usually are still just minutes away from gambling. Head down to your local liquor store, pick up some beer, cigarettes and a lottery ticket.
Huge difference between all that and online porn.

And btw I did not compare porn to B&M, what I said was that many industries outside of porn experience a summer slow down, so taking that into account why is it not possible that porn does?
My dad's business which was floor covering, experienced a Winter slow down...because houses were built in warmer months, people spend money on Holidays instead of house renovations etc.
But to get back online, mainstream, I've seen summer slow downs since '98 when I was running my ebay business.
My best period for sales wasn't even during the Holidays. It started about 3 weeks after Christmas, and went on until right around the end of May...why? Because people were stuck in front of their computers during the cold winter months.
Anyway, I said I was going swimming.
