There is a difference. Sure there are people addicted to porn / sex, but no where near the numbers of smokers, drinkers, and compulsive gamblers.

what constitues an "addiction" ? looking at porn more then 1 time a week and jerking off to it. I bet more people do that then smoke and drink combined.
point being, people don't stop looking at porn and jerking off just because it is the summer time. people don't stop looking at porn and jerking off because gas prices went up, because of the war in Iraq, because it is tax day or whatever the "other" reasons are that might affect mainstream america.

you compared porn to B&M stores etc... Will people buy less flat screen TVs or new cars because the economy is bad? sure. Do sales go up before christmas for department stores, definetly. Will people jerk off and look at porn less because it is christmas or because the economy is bad... nope if anything they might jerk off more . Nor will they drink less or smoke less because of those factors.
"slow downs" exist because the people advertising the product slow down, they create their own slow down.
