I saw no such thing. I saw popups occur on various webpages, at no point did I see hijacking of affiliate codes. I do not consider a popup to be theft, especially if a surfer consented to it. Almost every affiliate program out there does the same thing and the popups are not requested by the surfer, rather forced by the sponsors on exits. And I no longer promote Zango although because I was able to monetize my traffic for more than they paid.

What about the content that ends up on the sites that was never meant to be there? You can seed content, but how do you prevent people from stealing the REST of your content anyways? You can make a deal with one torrent site, and 5 others will appear offering your stuff illegally. It's not a fun situation.

there are ways to protect your content. but i'm not interested in spilling a business model on GFY. a lot of small preventative measures go a long way though.

Yes there are... how long are they effective? If you know more than I do, I'd love to talk about it. I'm sure that not only myself, but tons of other companies, not to mention mainstream movie studios etc would all love to hear how to make their content theft-proof. Last I heard, millions upon millions of dollars have been spent both in adult and mainstream to try to achieve this end, it would be lovely and convenient if there was a solution already out there that everyone seems to have overlooked :P

It'll be a few months before we overhaul our legacy members area cms. I'll throw you a login to check it our once we're all setup. Right now we're just as vulnerable as any other sponsor on the block. But we can see where things are going. Content owners have got to start protecting their content. Broadband is making it way too easy for everything to be stolen and passed around.

Despite the fact that Alexa is notoriously easy to pimp and shouldn't be relied on for traffic projections, I have to agree with DH's conclusion: Piratebay is probably bigger than the hun in terms of traffic because, last I checked, the hun doesn't link to software, documents, games, and other types of files. Good call

The content we have found so far that was stolen is ripped directly from DVD, or it's our plugin feeds that have been ripped from the sites, circumventing our security. We go to extensive means to protect our content online, however it seems the weakest link in security is DVD, as is the problem with most Hollywood studios.

I know thats what you think and you already know what I think. We differ quite widely on this opinion and so be it. I personally believe there's adware and spyware out there that are much much worse than Zango. I'd rather see programs that actually alter affiliate codes and actually hijack traffic get stopped than focusing on a product which is perfectly legal.

The solution is to get all your content custom shot so you are entirely responsible for the security of the content. Unfortunately not every program is going to switch to this model until it's unprofitable to use dvd content that's being ripped everywhere.

Ya our content is not getting ripped off our websites (although we have found some of our material that was brute-force hacked and put on torrent sites as well), our issue is with DVD rips. We can put all the security we want on our digitized media, it's not going to prevent people from ripping the dvds directly, chopping out the 2257 and copyright notices and inserting their own popup exes into the files. Lovely world we live in, no?
