I looked into second life but just didn't have the hours to spend to get the hang of it, my guy was naked for like 30 mins before i could figure that out muchless how to make money from it. I am sure there is money to be made with it, but seems like one of those things where you need to be a real user of the site and then find a way to make money. If you going into trying to make money with out having used the site for months I think it is going to be real tough.

Some one asked me about 6 months ago If I knew anyone making money with it. I suspect there was some article published. It was a non internet type that asked.
I had never heard of it till then.
The one thing I wish I had got in on was farming video game characters and gold. That is a whole underworld that while might piss of the video game companies is perfectly legal
damn my gf saw it and saw that it was like The Sims.
So I assume she went and is signing up on her laptop... I hope all my credit cards are still in my wallet and that she doesnt have any of them memorized, lol.
How do you make money from red light center, exactly?
Many ways, but the simplest is to say that we have lots of traffic. We rent stores, and our users walk by, in and around the stores all day long.
Stores can sell website memberships (as several of our "showroom" stores do), and webmaster makes money.
Web Cams are another one. Girls rents an alley spot in the Red Light Center alley. Users walk the alley looking for cam girls. User clicks to cam girl and she makes $ per minute.
We have phone sex companies that offer avatar-enhanced phone sex on a per-minute.
Any business you can think of can be done and sold better in 3D than on the web...
All I want to say is the entire concept is just insane. A great idea, but hard to wrap my head around, that people will pay to play in a virtual world.

DWB,
You have no idea. Poke your head in there one day and your head may very well explode.
Be sure you're ready to spend a LOT of time in SL. It starts off at an hour or two a day and goes from there.
Yes, you can make money, but be sure that's where you want to spend the majority of your time.
Allow me to expand on this one a bit.
The trick is to enter SL and figure out what has NOT been done yet. It's fairly easy. If you want to attack real estate and casinos, best of luck.
If you want to open up a taco stand that actually sells (virtual) used underwear from Japanese 19 year olds...I believe that's not saturated as of yet. If that same taco stand sells tacos...bonus. Remember, it's virtual. Things that make absolutely no sense in the real world fly just fine "in there".
The thing is insane, just check the website... $1 mil spent in the last 24 hours! Thats REAL $$ not Linden $ (the second life currency) ... this shit is interesting and can be very much exploited still today, its still a very new system...
Check www.slexchange.com to see what kind of shit is being sold there.. its mad.

For someone who deals with an industry involving almost entirely virtual products, I'm not sure what you're having trouble wrapping your head around. Is a .jpg a real thing? Online porn is just as virtual as the virtual shit in this game. You don't have to be able to hold something in your hands for it to have value.
As an interesting sidenote, US Congress is trying to figure out a way to tax virtual worlds, and they will. I just hope they don't get all retroactive on my ass after I'm done playing in the current free-for-all.
i cant get into SL. if anything i would buy some land and maybe sell it in a year or something unless you have super skills to make robots. there is a book on amazon how a guy made a million bucks selling guild gold and sl property...
Well, here's a very interesting analysis that came out yesterday:
"Virtual world's supposed economy is 'a pyramid scheme'"
Red Light Center works like normal adult sites. We have traffic, and you make Dollars for selling. Second Life doesn't work that way, so I don't think people are making real money.
