    ZANGO!! Your Days Are Numbered!!!

    A federal court has shut down a Nevada company " ERG Ventures LLC -- that the Federal Trade Commission accused of spreading spyware and adware on the Internet using the notorious Media Motor program.

    Microsoft, meanwhile, has filed a lawsuit charging that a number of ERG Venture's affiliates used screensavers and other software to infect users' PCs.

    It is just a matter of time before they go after Zango. I just hope the companies that buy from them to steal traffic and signups from their own affiliates and others get held accountable as well when Zango goes down.

                          WOW I hadn't seen that even though it was posted several times on GFY and I even replied to it.

                          There were "terms" to the settlement. I don't have faith in Zango living up to them. The FTC by shuttign down this other company is showing that they are not going to let these companies get away with it. Like I said... it's a matter of time.

                                              haha media motor? Last year I got an email from them asking if I would knew anyone selling ie exploits. Gee, maybe they just wanted to analyze the exploit and offer its users a free patch until microsoft made an official release? these spyware companies won't be around too much longer.

                                                                                                  The terms require complete disclosure before installing... sadly, Zango still pre-checks the acceptance box and then makes the word for acceptance as "PLAY" like a play button for a video or "play the game". Their website is, in my mind, still directly in violation because they encourage and have specifically set up their site so that people will download without reading the terms.

                                                                                                  Further, they go on an don about Truste's new "best practices" site, yet that site specifically forbids the pre-checked acceptance box setup that Zango currently uses.

                                                                                                  Zango isn't long for the world under their current guise, their big traffic days are already behind them (last year, not this).

                                                                                                          All they had to do was stop allowing sites to add other crap with the install, make a clearer eula ..oh and pay 3 million.

                                                                                                          oh yeah, they also notified current consumers with a zango popup, how appropriate.
