Thats a good idea , a timed popup overlay warning..

Its always a good idea to let reputabe sites speak for you like the mcaffee site advisor site.

so you can say "mcafee" the world leader in antivirus/adware warning software says " etc etc " about zango.. ( link to site etc )

exactly, i took your idea of giving a notice, and made it like that instead of redirecting them, they see the original site, but get a 10 second popup that says on the screen in the middle for them to read and possibly remove it

the weird irony in this is that one of you guys is going to get sued by zango for calling it spyware and for trying to hurt their business. look at it from their perspective... its adware, the user consented to install it and see popups. hurting their business because you feel they might be hurting yours, does not relieve you of any legal liabilities for damages you might be causing to them.

              something to think about...

              flame away.

i just put that up as a demo, its not gonna actually say that, so they can't do shit, and its not hurting them, just a 10 second message that says "hey, you got this installed and heres ways to remove it for a better surfing experiance"

why do you support zango so much? every post i read from you, you're defending them

the majority of virus softwares call it spyware. A lot of sites like Ben Elderman call it spyware and he is an attorney, so i think he knows what he is doing. More then half of the people who have it installed do not know how it got there and call it spyware. Even 180 solutions itself admits that some of their affiliates did intalls without people knowing.

The difference between adware and spyware seems to be if the person agreed to have it installed vs did not know it was put on their pc. So 180solutions saying they know people received their shit without permission seems like an admission of guilt to me, that it is spyware.

If it smells like shit, looks like shit, and taste like shit, it is shit no matter how much you try to tell people it is steak.

If one person started making up stuff like saying Company XYZ was selling drugs out of their office, or they where promoting CP, etc.. for something like that you can be sued. You can't be sued for calling an "adware" company "spyware" when the company itself admits that several people had their software installed with out the person knowing.

I am talking about today. right now. Nov, 2006. thats whats relevant. The US government is not calling it spyware, the FTC is not calling it spyware. their attorneys are not calling it spyware and the company is not calling it spyware. Their official position is obviously that its not spyware.

from their legal position, webmasters opinions and grievances are irrelevant. it's the law that matters. if someone started crusading, saying TeamClickCash.com is nothing but a bunch of lying, stealing cunts... it should be expected that you would lash out eventually and their rationalizations for calling you that, for making defamatory and liabelous remarks and orchestrating an effort to directly hurt your business are are not going to be points you would be willing to sit and ponder in semantical arguments and philosophical discussions. you will move agressively to protect your business and your income. further, if you were a public company as they are, it would be mandatory that you take action.

that was my point. i just thought it was an interesting point and people should also consider the fact is that Zango has the most qualified and connected attorneys in the US representing them to sueanyone here... and those saying "hey man, just use this script" could suddenly find themselves in a position where they are forced to respond and defend themselves in a costly legal fight that achieved absolutely nothing.

i dont support them. i'm not defending them. why is it irrrational and illogical to say "hey, look at this from the other side for a second"? there is nothing illogical about what i said.

"for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction" - thats just as true in business as it is in gravity. pressure someone and call them a thief and crusade to hurt them and their revenue... and you better be aware of the potential consequences and prepared to address them.

i dont care about zango. adware will always be a part of the web. so will a lot of things that i don't like. I am not going to spend my life and time locked in a futile quest to change the world.

i see a HUGE difference between someone using zango to buy traffic and an affiliate program using it to directly hijack the traffic of thier own affiliates. that was the most blatant admission of theft that i have ever seen in this business and as usual... no one really cares, except a few crusaders that always find themselves standing alone in the end. thats the worst part about this business... the porn business is its own worst enemy.

personally, my interest is that i would like to see this be the first time someone was held accountable for stealing from affiliates. that would mark a huge turning point in this business.

Thats why yoou have to word it carefully and why i suggested letting others with bigger pockets speak for you like mcafee site advisor lists the site as spyware.. so its ok to say "mcafee anti virus the leading ant-virus/spyware software rates this product as "spyware etc etc "

that right there is all from shit that happened years ago and is no longer relevant to how things are operated now. as a someone who has done many hundreds of thousands of installs over the years I can personally attest that they have really cleaned things up by a huge amount. you'd really be shocked to know some of the things that went on over at searchbarcash

from their legal position, webmasters opinions and grievances are irrelevant. it's the law that matters. if someone started crusading, saying TeamClickCash.com is nothing but a bunch of lying, stealing cunts... it should be expected that you would lash out eventually and their rationalizations for calling you that, for making defamatory and liabelous remarks and orchestrating an effort to directly hurt your business are are not going to be points you would be willing to sit and ponder in semantical arguments and philosophical discussions. you will move agressively to protect your business and your income. further, if you were a public company as they are, it would be mandatory that you take action.

that was my point. i just thought it was an interesting point and people should also consider the fact is that Zango has the most qualified and connected attorneys in the US representing them to sueanyone here... and those saying "hey man, just use this script" could suddenly find themselves in a position where they are forced to respond and defend themselves in a costly legal fight that achieved absolutely nothing.

So what happens today is only relivant but what happend last week is not. I'll have to remember that, it doesn;t matter what a company has done from day 1 - present, it just matters what they do in the last 24 hours

You have no point. I dont care what their attornies and their company is calling their shit.

How do you compare if some people started calling me lying, cheating. etc...

If i admitted I cheated, If half the net accused me of cheating, etc.. then yes, they could call me a cheater. If just "some people" started saying it with no basis, then no that would not be legal.

Why would it be illegal for someone to offer an "adware" program that notify people they have zango on their computer and how to get rid of it ? If they people agreed to the TOS they could do what they want with their pc, isn't that Zango's whole defense, i would htink that would have to work both ways ?
