I added a text link on a site last year, to cams.com, and haven't been checking my stats on that account as the traffic to the program was fairly low.

It turns out that it has actually had 180 orders:

My big mistake? Choosing to put the link up to the percentage payout option as I do with AFF, instead of the $75 per order.

Admittedly some of those orders will be rebills, however simple maths:

$75 x 180 > $1171.96

What a moron.

If you're promoting cams.com, I strongly advise to do split testing!

Yeah, that's another good point, with so many programs going under, it's a smart thing to do a link audit once in a while too.

That's funny. Way back when I tested Lars's program and I went with the PPS option at I think $40? Anyhow, I got like 10 joins and they collectively went on to spend tens of thousands of dollars on the site.

Yes, you just never know. It's an idea to do split testing on every sponsor that offers both options.

That works out at $6.51 per order on average. Probably low value countries and they'd convert the account to % anyway or some cunning stunt like that...

not specifically about this program, but I find it hard not to be skeptical of any of the high pps offers in the long run, if one's traffic is producing that way in revshare longterm, I am skeptical of a sponsor paying a high pps on the same situation without something "going wrong" with the deal

Webcam companies average things out with the whales. Every big cam program around has people spending 5 figures per month on cams, doesn't take many of those to justify paying a pretty high PPS.

That says 180 orders, not 180 new sales. I don't have access to your stats, but there's a difference. For all I can tell, you got all those orders from one or two horny dudes.

Your $1171.96 total earned would work out to $150 on PPS if its only a couple of guys. If they ARE new orders, you're out about 12 grand. I doubt it, though.

Can't tell. You'd have to post your order details to see if it was new or returning.

The order details are only shown for the last 2 months, I'd have to check with Andrea for the full details. I'm fairly certain that it's not 2 guys sending 90 orders each though!

Meh, changed the links over, will post the new stats in 6 months if I remember.

Split testing is always a good idea. Some people change to our PPS links during a promo, then back to the percentage links to catch the whales. It's all about what works best for your traffic.

A little tip for anyone promoting AFF, if you don't send 100 hits a day, you're not on the 55% payout rate. You could be only getting 35%.

Stick your AFF affiliate link in your htaccess file for 404's, for any sites that don't really matter to you, you'll soon be reaching those 100 required hits

The majority of sales are returning for me -- I did a quick check on recent data and I earned 3 times more with revshare than I would have with PPS. But like you say, it varies so split test are essential.

Some of the last 2 month's are returning, some are new.

The way I see it, $1176.96 / $75 = 15 customers.

Are 15 customers really going to be rebilling 12 times on average?

I simply can't believe it.

Regardless, test folks, try both options, it's totally dependent on your traffic source (s) as to what will work for you.

Depends on how long you expect to be around (or the sponsor). If I look at only the last year data I get a 4.5 transactions per user. But if I look at 5 years of data I get 15. Those few users who stay for years and years really change the numbers.

Of course these days it seems a bit risky to bet on a sponsor being still around in 5 years and still paying on the same customers...

Still bottom line as you said is split test -- trouble always is getting enough data. Extrapolating out to multi-year is hard when whales are so rare.

Your free to paid ratio is so good especially for cams.com that I would presume a large % of those orders are reorders. Obviously it still looks like you would have made more on pps, but I bet the total earnings from that is a lot closer to your revshare than you think. Also, if you stop sending traffic, you're still gonna earn on additional reorders.

SE traffic. I almost never pay for traffic, unless it's in a really tough to get marketplace and I know I'm backing a winner. I'd say I spend less than $3K a month on traffic these days, and none of it goes to aff or cams.

Couple years ago I had about 10-15k 404 traffic. Had some shmuck from AFF begging me to send it. Made a custom page etc. 2 weeks in, not 1 sale. Gave up, sent it to another program, 2 months later they paid for my car. Legs dont pay bills.

If you send 20 hits and make a $149.95 sale, you will get 35% commission = $52.

If you send those (good) 20 hits, and (shite unproductive doing nothing) 80 hits from 404's etc, you will be bumped up to the 55% rate = $82.
