TGP idea

I'm certain this already has come up quite a few times before, but frankly, I don't really care.

What about creating a $1 for life AVS-like system, behind which things like TGPs and their galleries can be put? Or, maybe, just put all hardcore links behind the $1 AVS-like thing. Not to make money on the system itself, but to filter traffic.

Now, ofcourse, people will be saying "that would just scare away customers from your tgp". And yes, it will scare away hitbots, kids, people without creditcards and people scared of pulling out their cards. Big fucking loss.
Right now ratios on TGPs suck, and I personally think that is not so much due to the giving away of free porn, as it is due to giving "previews" to potential customers who aren't potential customers at all.

well I would definetly give a lot better gallery quality for a site like that. I could make the movie galleries twice as long for a definite potential customer. So he would find some value in his $1 if others followed suit.

Make it a dollar per year so it will at least recurr. If you got 100k members you'd be making a 100k a year after that.

Though it's still hard to get members even at $1. Conversions might not be what you think. It's getting them to trust you and getting their lazy asses to pull out the card.

Well, in my opinion, TGPs are not the "death" of the industry. Sure there's a crapload of free stuff, too much. It's basically marketing in a carpet-bomb style. It's unfocused, un planned. Fine. The real work in this industry, like any other industry, is to figure out how to focus your advertising strategy to target the market you want.

I've found that a big problem with a lot of the people in the industry is the assumptions we make. We "assume" that everybody knows what a TGP is and they all go to them. This is not so. People that understand the internet and have a thirst for adult stuff probably have found TGPs within their first year on the net. These are not the people you want to target, AT ALL.

The traffic I want and love, are newbies. AOL users. These people, if you treat them right and not lie to them, they will give you money hand over fist. Now we've figured out how to target them somewhat and it's doing well. We still do TGP because in my mind, it's more of a branding technique.

TGP for a webmaster is like putting up a billboard. YOu have no control on who sees it.

Getting them to pull out their wallets is the hardest part. I think if they're willing to pull out the credit card, they'll be willing to pay $40/month for a paysite membership. The average porn user spends A TON of money on the stuff.

The goal of this is not to make money on the $1. It's to filter traffic.

Ofcourse, some people would still stay with normal tgps.
However, the AVS TGPs would have more quality inside of them, and thus draw away at least a portion of paying customers, while bad traffic would remain with old school TGPs.
The difference with TGP2 is that TGP2 offered less to customers, which obviously scares them away if they can find something else. This idea, however, offers more to customers, since better previews can be put up if you're dealing with real potential customers.
Also, you could go for the best of both worlds: only display softcore in the non-protected areas, and hardcore only in the protected areas.

Another benefit it brings is that it helps against legal troubles. The way it stands right now, in a few years webmasters showing X-rated content in non-protected areas will face severe legal battles. Especially US/EU webmasters will have to be prepared for that.

Sure, for the few years to come, the number of newbies will continue to rise. After that, however, most newbies will slowly start to learn about the internet and the porn on it.

There are quite a few TGPs that have a "members only" section behind an AVS entry or even an email registration entry. Some LLs have this as well.
From what I gather *ahem* - it works well.

So true, unless you get a majority in on your idea no one will bother with it. Some one some where is bound to post the gallery they used in the protected area on the web for free else where and then it's just a waste.

True. Most definitely.
However, wouldn't it be so much better if you could target that paying porn user instead of just targetting everyone and hoping you make a hit?
I'd personally rather have 1k bookmarkers who have creditcards and are known to occasionally buy something than 200k bookmarkers who haven't been filtered.

Why would it be a waste?
The surfer, once he has a lifetime membership, will keep on coming back if quality is sufficient. That's the big difference with TGP2, where the surfer would be gone as soon as he found a normal TGP.

Anyone got any other ideas on this issue?

(and yes, this is a shameless bump)

the funny thing about adult internet is that is evolves more or less blindly. put a group of 100 webmasters in a room, and you'll have serious trouble just trying to decide what kind of pizza to order.

legislation is (of course) a different matter.

That's why something like TGP2 could never work. The sites using it would lose out to the other sites. Here, however, a relatively small number of sites can work together, and it isn't necessary for the rest of the adult world to cooperate.
