				 | how weighted is the difference between a .co.uk and a .com though? is it really worth chasing that .co.uk? I don't really see too many .ca's killing it on my own searches. at least not ranking anywhere really high, without being a news source or something. |

				 | I think they would. google.ca searches show canadian .ca sites first in the search results for sure. Should be the same deal for google.co.uk

				 | Btw, why not to check it out by yourself? Just use some uk proxy and do some google typing with google.co.uk. You will quickly notice what's going on at 1st pages. |

				 | Interestingly faulty info here. .com's are just as valid and rank just as well if they're UK sites. I'll not spoil it by pointing out how Google knows. However, if you think a .co.uk will rank higher all things being equal just because it's one you are very mistaken.

Even typing out a few letters and seeing suggestions shows that searches are tailored for AU terms. It's annoying, because generic terms may not necessarily be related to geographic location. Simple examples: "green" has 10/11 of the results pointing at .au domains (the exception is wikipedia) "computer" has 9/10 -> .au, again the exception is wikipedia | |

				 | It seems like common sense that they would, but I haven't noticed this to be the case. It is possible that Google only weights .co.uk more favorably for UK searches if the whois is in the UK, in which case I wouldn't have noticed because it would not apply.

				 | depends on where is the server located. you can have .co.uk in usa and .com in uk and that com will have better serps. same as visitors are targetted by ips, websites are targetted also by ip, not by domain extension |

				 | we do ok with our .co.uk google search excitement for adults or words like "cumslut" and a few .co.uk shows top of google. I must admit, a small question I wonder, is if I changed the linking from the .co.uk as primary to the .com, would we do better on google ranking. I own both adult-excitement.com and .co.uk |

				 | Google.co.uk rates sites that are hosted on UK servers better than sites hosted in USA/other locations. Google.ca is the same, as are many of the other Google dot whatever sites around the world. You could host yourpornsite.ca on a UK server and with as much seo effort it would rank the same as yourpornsite.co.uk or yourpornsite.com would.

				 | from what I know this can matter in addition to where your host is located. I don't know if things will stay like this forever though.

				 | It is based more on server than domain name, which has been mentioned already. But to put an answer to why the results for each localised google sites show more .co.uk or more .au it is probably because the people registering them live in that country and therefore choose to use that countries domain extension.
