Motives and psuedo political speculation is great 500 years after the fact.

What do you think Columbus had on his mind when he went on his voyages - to completely destroy a culture that no-one had any contact with previously.

Exploring and conquest is part of the human condition - native Americans did the same thing, in a smaller scale of course, but dont think for a second that if they had the money and the technology that the Europeans had they would not have been doing the exact same thing.
