I need to add a forum to Delany's site but she wants to make sure that it is secure so it can't get hacked and she wants to keep the spammer off.

I want something that has a lot of easy to add modules for enhancements.

What do you suggest or use ?

if I would build one I would use RoR (Ruby on Rails).

i think latest vbulletin can fill your needs, but its not free and its harder to add modules there as in phpbb, but phpbb 3 is giving so many errors and login for members is not that secured. those are the most used ones with all needed features or modifications so why to try the rest

I was thinking phpbb3 also but I'm concerned about the security.

VB but if you want a free one Simple Machines is coming on strong, as a user I prefer SM forums over PHPbb or any of the other free ones. However you just can't beat VB.

vbulletin or invision power board gets my vote for paid.

For free i would suggest smf.
