hosting experts: who doesnt think everything is moving to cloud computing?
i just heard about it recently. amazon and some other big names are behind this and its a big push and makes sense.
here is the concept for the layman. whether a server or a home computer, you just have a way to connect to a main bank of thousands of servers, and you just pay for exact what/the cycles, bw, you use. ie rather than have to have a network of 1000 servers, you just have a few that hold your backup network and the "cloud" serves the rest. all the content storage and bandwidth privisioning is done off of the cloud. lets say your doing content encoding and need 20 servers for a big job/order you need to get out, rather than have to purchase 20 computers to accomidate this large order, the cloud gives me all the power/processing i need when. saves me a ton of dough surprised not many more people have been talking about this

The problem is really data integrity.
Regardless of how smart it is I would not go for a shared "cloud???" for any data that is transaction based and / or require 100% uptime. I saw similar concepts about 10 years ago where you paid for bandwidth + CPU power consumed, also the SETI program used shared CPU technology. Also remember a couple of sponsor programs that offered to "rent your iddle cpu", not really sure what happenned to them, the idea was not bad (considering the CPU power available 10 years ago)
