Do employers even check for degrees anymore?
A dude told me that he lied on his resume and said that he graduated from Brown. He got the job and has been working there for over 3 years. He never attended a community college much less Brown! Now he's making 6 figures all because he bullshitted his resume.
Do employers really even check? I am going to start applying for jobs and say that I graduated from Harvard. If I put in 100 resumes there's eventually going to be one company that doesn't check. Any employers out there? Do you honestly check for educational degrees or even do background checks? What say you?

1) Yes, many check.. especially if it's a necessary qualification for the job. I'm sure all don't though.
2) If it's ever discovered you lied on your app, you're subject to immediate termination - with prejudice.

You bet they check. If discovered lying on a resume, not only can you be fired, but you can also possibly be charged with a crime of defrauding your employer.
Brown is a great school! In Deo Speramus!!

Some do some don't. Certain industries are much stricter than others.

Who wants to go day to day waiting for the shoe to drop.If your older and have a career chances are they wont check. When I was a headhunter placing Vice presidents and directors, we didn't check degrees.

Some do and some don't.
A lot of it depends on your level of experience and how far out you are from undergrad. If you're just a couple of years out from school, and only have a year or two of "real world" experience, I think an employer would be more interested in your collegiate experience versus if you are 5-10 years out and have a few jobs under your belt. |
