Photo studio re-decorating ideas...?
Lately we're in the process of renovating one of our studio areas and need some creative ideas for background motiffs. For the past few years the studio has been totally black (walls, ceiling) - but we've grown tired of how it looks in photos.
So we're lookin' for an economical overhaul idea. Something visually unique - keeping in mind that we shoot adult/fetish imagery. I was thinking of a medieval concept (flagstone design perhaps?). Color Your World has a few decent-looking 3D flagstone wallpaper designs, but they wanted a kidney and spleen ($59.95/roll - ouch!). Plus I'm not exactly the world's best wallpaper hanger, heh. Not much to go on, I know. But maybe someone has a suggestion or two to make? |

If your even slightly good with your hands what I would suggest to do is to wonder on down to home depot or lowes and get yourself some mdf and some foamcore insulation. I would go with 1 inch thick foamcore myself. Get yourself an x-acto knife or hotwire cutter. Glue the foamcore to the mdf and after it dries (apply weight) take your knife or cutter and shave out your rock/flagstone shapes. Apply a coat of primer to the whole thing then spray paint it with rock spray paint.
If you desire to get even more realistic you can hit up a model railroad or craft supply place and find either static grass or moss to apply to certain areas to give parts a mossy look. Same can be done with mortar and such. Should only cost you about 50.00 to 100.00 per 4'x8' sheet when completed.

Excellent tip, i have done this myself in my studio and looks really good. One of the best things we did at our studio was create a 25 foot by 10 foot high magnetic wall. You buy or create cheap props, attach magnetic film to them and they stick to the wall no matter where you put them. This made changing sets around so much easier and it really wasnt too expensive. For our dungeon area we created fake dungeon doors out of cheap wood someone was throwing out, we beat the hell out of the wood with hammers and a sledge hammer and then used gas to burn them so they looked old and worn. Also can never go wrong with red and black velvet fabrics
