Webair.net - Question for you

What is your policy about your clients using stolen content and hijacking traffic? Does your TOS prohibit this and do you act on complaints?

There is a domain with your DNS listed in the whois (which does not necessarily mean they are your client) currently scraping my copyrighted blog content, reposting it as theirs with a redirect to a sponsor site.

How do we shut these thieves down please?

I think this needs to be on record.

I have zero tolerance for content and traffic thieves.

The site which is jacking my traffic seems to be doing it with others as well and this has got to stop. The complacency related to this is sickening.

Traffic/content theives can be stopped but it's going to take much more than C&D's - most thieves assume they can just erase their stolen content and redirected pages as soon as they get busted without consequence.

It's time to put the heat on the sponsors and hosts who may benefit from these jacker asses.

If you are a sponsor and you knowingly accept traffic/sales from jackers you owe those who have been robbed (and don't even try the lame ass 'joe job' excuses).

If you are a web host and knowingly provide services to jackers you owe those who have been robbed. This is one of the most tangible points in the jacker's trail. And simply warning them to not do it any more does not cut the mustard.

That's why I want to know what the official policies are of hosts and sponsors as they apply to this type of crime.

If it's just a warning for first time offenders, then the hosts and sponsors need to be held accountable for being a huge part of this problem.

Zero tolerance is the only way we can protect our content from *blatent* thieves.

This is an issue which applies to all of us and I know I'm not the only one who is pissed with how difficult it is to nail a thief. But when we do, it has to count for all the ones we miss.

Hiding in Poland or Russia is not longer going to protect these fuckers.

This particular instance involves the thief scraping my posts (word for word) and building a page on their blog which has a Javascript encoded redirect - the intention is clear an repeated in numerous offenses.

dcortez,

You need to goto our Intellectual Property Policy located here: http://www.webair.com/legal/DMCA.htm and submit a DMCA complaint through the proper channels. We can then remove the content accordingly.

Feel free to contact me with any questions or comments.

Thanks

Thanks for responding so quickly.

Are you related to webair.net ?

That is the domain listed with whom I have issue.

In any case, simply removing stolen content rather than immediately shutting down the account of the offender is my main point of complaint to web hosts in general.

When hosted site demonstrates the clear intention to hijack traffic - through encoded javascript redirects, they need to be shut down with extreme prejudice.

Simply removing the content is *never* going to protect content owners.

Scrapers count on this leniency - it's their protection.
