Property Values

Been looking around trying to buy my first house. Area I'm looking at I'm looking to have a house built.. the area is completely new.

Across the street a pretty large apartment complex is being built... is this bad for property values? Or more people the better for the economy in the area? Or does it completely depend on the level of apartments that are there.

Any input appreciated

typically a custom house across the street from an apartment complex is bad for the house owner.

Unless you happen to be building a custom crack house.

its not really across the street... this house would be in a community.. but outside the community across the highway is the apartments.

Hard to say. Though the thought of a highway nearby does not ussually help. Again all really depends a lot on the area.

If the apartment is an ok distance, that should not be as much of an issue. Yet that highway thing is a lil disturbing.

Would your house be in one of those facists gated communities?

Good for property values, if the apartment complex ever wants to expand...

the part of the community that I'm looking at isn't gated.. some are but 600k+ for my first house is a bit of a reach.

all roads in houston are pretty much highways, or what i consider a highway moving here from jersey.

2 lanes 55-60mph. the area is pretty much all farmland now, but the community pretty much bought all the land in the area and are selling a bunch of residential/commercial sites.

No, it's bad, especially if the apartments are cheap. I know I wouldn't buy a house near an apartment complex or a trailer park...and probably not near a highway unless it's out in the country and there's not a lot of traffic.
