between these 2 camcorders....

Which should I get!?

I'm deciding between an entry level 3CCD or entry level HD:

Sony HDR-HC1 Mini DV / HDV Camcorder,

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/cont...ughType=search

or

Panasonic PV-GS250 3 CCD Mini DV Camcorder

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/cont...ughType=search

???

I have heard that the MINI DV does a really shitty job recording. You may want to rethink that.

Search for it, I think there have been a few threads about it.

IMO, if you are going to invest that kind of $ to make content i would spend it on a used canon XL1, then get the wide lens and get in tight and crop in camera. these cameras have dropped in price now that XL2 is out, and IMO will make you the most money for web video.

lots of folks don't understand that many MANY surfers are watching web video in small window sizes so full body shots or scenery are not so interesting as very tight detail action shots with real sound---and you must have 3 chip in low or avail light.

the canon XL series is a workhorse camera and in a different league than some of the toys many guys use.

I have the Panasonic GS200 and it's fairly good for amateur stuff, but needs a lot of light. Good for the price, I spose.

28 days was shot with it, people forget sound is 60 percent of the video experience
. hdv doesnt handle sound well. my best friend is my att shot gun mic , i can hear a fly sigh with it lol

Your mixed up a bit, nothing wrong with MINI DV, you must be thinking of something else like the new DVD discs cameras or something.

what makes the panasonic so dvx 100a so much fun is the 'infinite' stop on the iris as opposed to a '19 stop' with the sony, I don't know what the canon has . . a very accessable camera to shoot with . . . wish I had one

Agreed The XL-1 is great and if you keep your eyes open you can get one close that price. I saw on of the 2 you were looking at was/is around $1600.00 I would invest in a better camera, the Panasonic DVX 100a is a great camera nice and light and a wide enough lens to shoot web content with.

If you want to go totally crazy you can go ahead and get the big brother of the dvx 100 a which is this one. NO MORE TAPE straight onto "sticks" or a portable hard drive. No more dropped frames, wear on tape etc.

Either way, if you are buying this to shoot content then it is worth the investment.

I have an XL-1 s (soon for sale) a Panasonic AG- DVX 100a and I am looking to buy the above mentioned big brother.

Yeah crazy hu? It also does miniDV and DVCPRO HD/50/25 and DV recording.
You can also get a 60 gig drive that fits on your belt and store it there. The time I save with capturing alone is worth it to me.
