:2cents Canon EOS 20D feedback

Anyone have any experience with the Canon EOS 20D?

http://consumer.usa.canon.com/ir/con...ode lid=10464

I have enough AMEX points to buy this with some accessories. Anyone have one? Is this a good buy?

This will be my first Digital SLR and I want to get a good one.

I plan to use it for still life stuff and some panoramas (super wide angle).

I showed you mine in Vegas. It is the best one out IMO

For superwide, make sure you get the Canon 10-22. You can't get very wide on it due to the sensor on digital, however, that lense is specially made for it. It runs about $799.

You were the one who turned me on to it! I am pretty much sold on it at this point. Just thought I would post here to see if any pro photographers had anything to say.

I have the 10, and if I could afford it, I'd get the 20.

It may pay to sit on your hands for a little while, the 20D was announced about 14 months ago. The 10D was about 18 months prior. There could be a new model on the way very soon.

If you can afford it the 5D is the new kid on the block. It's full frame (no 1.6X crop) which means that all your lens purchases are more future proof. EF-S lenses such as the 10-22mm are not a good long term investment because their use is limited to the digital rebel or 20D only.

On the flipside, the 5D is probably about twice the cost, so if you need "super" wide angle on the 20D or dreb then the 10-22mm is the only real choice...

(Wanna talk about super wide angle? Try a Sigma 12-24mm on a full frame body. )

Hey that camera is awesome. Only thing it is cropped and not full frame. if you don't know what that means then it doesn't affect you anyway.
Yes there is a 5 d coming and it is the next step up but it is more spendy, however even if you are shooting for print it is more then acceptable. Remeber in cameras it is the lens that makes the picture and not the camera. Spend your extra cash on great L series lenses and you should have no probs.

5D is overrated. I know a lot of people sticking with the 20D and not "upgrading."

1) consistently backfocuses in autofocus mode (mark series does this too)

2) disappointing shadow detail... poor contrast range (the d60 was actually better)

3) All of the current canon cameras (including the mark series) are difficult to custom color balance. The auto white balance is "all over the map"

I don't want to argue with people that are happy with their 20d... just wanted to give you a heads up that not everybody thinks it's perfect

Has anybody tried the new Canon 5D yet?

Overrated? Why you think so? From which I heard 20D you can't even compare with 5D.. I would like to hear/read other side of the story...
