SLR Auto mode + Photoshop vs. Knowing how to use it.
Hi guys, I picked up a Canon 20d recently and still haven't had a chance to learn all the custom settings on it to go in AV mode etc. Now my question is, is it worth it to start taking model pictures in auto mode and optimize the pictures in photoshop until I can take some time to read the manual and take some courses or does it make such a huge difference in custom mode that I would be wasting my time until learning the thing.
Hope to hear some feedback. Also where are the best places to learn about these things. I took a photography class back in high school but it was all film and the only thing I learned that I could use with a digital slr camera is to center the subject and make sure to have good lighting ![]() |

i have used auto mode before....then went into photoshop and adjusted the levels and brightness/contrast, and they looked fine
but only do this with sun light, no flash...sun light just comes out sweet...but the flash is a little trickier to get perfect with auto mode and photoshop

Hey guys...I just got a D10, after spending years with a Sony FD-707. The Sony was kinda cool cause I would just use my video lights and point-and-click. I had to set white balance, and the upside was the pics turned out well enough that I didn't have to fuck with them in PS...the downside was some didn't have enough light, and I'd lose shots to blur...and it was always unpredicatable as to what ones I would lose.
The D10 rules, but it's much harder. All digi cams LOVE natural sunlight, so yea...set on auto and shoot away under those circumstances. But you're gonna need to get a flash/strobes, and the minute you do that, you're gonna have to learn about F-stops, and depth of field, and shutter speed, and all that. But you're professionals! So might as well act like it! ![]() Good luck, and don't get frustrated! The pay off is huge!!! |

I shot a bunch of outside photos this weekend myself, and am messing with them now. I have the 20D as well.
