Theplanet

I was thinking today and realized that i alone have given my host (theplanet.com) like 50 refers. And i have only been with them like 4 months.

So 50x250=$12,500

Not one person have left them. So they make $12,500 everymonth.

Thats creazy or what?!

i think their customer portal is so fucking great, there are so many options including dns controls, server upgrade requests, MRTG graphs for ALL backbone links, and even reports on switch and router uptime. I've never seen anything else like it.

Their message boards have more info on running a server than anywhere else I've seen.

Yeah they are great, and they have nice prices, but they don't offer "Full Managed Servers", or am I wrong? Cause my server-setting/running/whatever skills are nonexistent.

they have fully managed it's called Total Control

I also use the planet. They bandwidth is awesome. looking at their client base and the fact that alot of "hosting companies" are actually either resellers or shared servers on their network.

only complaint i have is that the IPs are actually kinda dirty. take a look at the history of the IPs. ThePlanet doesn't care as long as there aren't too many complaints but if you want super clean ips then the planet doesn't work. 95% of the webmaster wouldn't care.

What do you mean "dirty"?

i use them for a few of my sites - I don't use half of the bandwidth I pay for but I make up for it by harrassing tech support all the time. : for the planet :D

don't get me wrong The Planet is awesome, although for super clean IP addys (which is what I am used to) they aren't super quality.

this is a brand new IP that i have at the planet currently, just ordered it about a month ago
http://www.dnsstuff.com/tools/ip4r.ch?ip=70.84.229.224

this was one of my old IP addresses at a different NOC - squeeky clean
http://www.dnsstuff.com/tools/ip4r.c...09.235.255.130

but remember, only about 5% of admins would even care about it. in the adult industry it makes no difference.

gfy.com - see 2 listing at bottom of page
http://www.dnsstuff.com/tools/ip4r.ch?ip=64.255.175.11

playboy.com - squeeky clean
http://www.dnsstuff.com/tools/ip4r.ch?ip=216.163.137.3

I have 32 IPs from The Planet and each of them are listed in an abuse database on that list.

But remember The Planet ROCKS. Tech support is awesome and they just recently were purchased which will give them much more operating capital.

WOW, I never knew that it is possible to get IPs from your hoster, which are listed on such spamlists. Anyway I gonna take a look at the hosting and the full management option.

my friend's server was getting DOSed and they terminated his account. on top of it, not only would they not plugin the server so he can recover his data, they wouldn't even let him recover his backup which was on a backup server with them.

their reason for terminating the account: severe DOS attack

I've had some overages on my backups costing nearly $1600. Not only did they refund the charges, but they assigned a $100/hr tech for free to help reconfigure the backups.

every host is great until you have major drama with them, then their true colors REALLY shine. I've spent a mini-fortune on legal fees persuing theplanet, I just hope nobody else here has any run-ins with any other department other than sales and support.

Any host will drop you if you are under major DDOS attack (like a huge 100mbp attack). No one want their whole network to be effected because of 1 server.

Yes accounting can use some work. However if a mistake is made, it will be taken care of and you will get you're $ back 100% of the time.
