Get the free one from Gevalia. It works just fine.

I'm a coffee snob but even home drip coffee can be done properly with a cheap coffee maker.

Here is my perfect coffee maker.
1 reusable copper wire filter. (6.00)
1 two quart electric kettle. (15.00)
1 coffee grinder. (10.00)
1 caraffe (20.00)

Thats it.
Put water in kettle and turn on. Grind beans and place wire filter over caraffe. Fill filter with ground beans. By this time water is at a boil. Turn off water and wait 10 seconds. Slowly pour water of beans so it does not overflow.
Perfect coffee every time. I only use the caraffe so that the coffee stays fresh and hot for several hours. I have used a thermos before too.

The Hamilton Beach one my bf got is wicked awesome. Not too expensive, either, and never gets that burnt taste if you leave it sitting too long.

Here it is

I returned it after one day. The coffee was like warm. Never hot. And it was a pain cleaning it.

Friend of mine just got some kind of 'Pod" coffee maker and loves it. Brews single or multiple cups of coffee with ease. I just would worry about the support for something like that. Any Mr. Coffee one is fine by me.

This is my Cuisinart that I picked up through Gevalia. It was around $90.00 on sale. Has the built in grinder, and it's a thermal carafe - no heat is applied to the coffee. The carafe keeps it steaming hot for about 5 hours. I love this thing.

With fresh roasted and ground beans and good filtered water, it's the second best cuppa I've ever had.. a vacuum press with a gas flame is the best.

I'm thinking about getting my own roaster. Yummmmmmy coffee!

I got tired of having to buy a new coffeemaker every year or so and just broke down and bought a Bunn CX. Makes a pot in 3mins, also makes tea. Of course, at $600 + $100 for a thermal caraffe, it's out of the range you requested...But maybe you can find a smaller (and used) Bunn on eBay or somewhere.

My vote goes for the Bunn range. I have used them for years and right now have one in the kitchen and one in my office. No need to spend $700: the regular 10-cup models are around $100, just as quick and make great coffee. Take it from someone who is fussy enough about his coffee to have beans delivered from NY...
