There's a witness who is saying the plane had landed but was hit by lightning on the runway and ran off the end into a ravine.

I guess they overshot the runway and the plane exploded after that, they are still trying to figure out how many people were evacuated, but this looks very bad, we will find out more news soon!

Lightning strikes occur frequently, unbeknownst to passengers, at altitude and on the ground. The planes are specifically designed to handle them without a problem, and do routinely. It's just the media being unknowledgeable on the subject, as usual, as well as passengers.

This had nothing to do with any lightning, hopefully we'll know more soon.

The crazy thing is this is 20 years to the day of the wind shear related crash in Dallas.

yes, sounds like low level wind shear, very dangerous for heavy aircraft because they do not respond so fast to control movements at slow speed.

a cessna can deal with it---a heavy jet cannot.

Yeah, I'm hoping the weather improves. It looks like the severe thunderstorm and lightning played a factor. One witness claimed it was hit by lightning.

he said he didnt see anyone else get off as he ran so fast and didnt look back.
