I've stayed at the Rho Hotel right on the dam. It's pretty good and not too expensive.
Check it out.

For Medium Pimpin:
SwissHotel was headache free. Excellent location, walking distance from train station and right at the foot of dam square & the church area. Web access was good.

I'd suggest Best Western's Eden Hotel. It is in walking distance of the Red Light District, Damrack, Central Train Station, many coffeehouses, and museums.

Rates are reasonable, rooms clean, and food is good.
