A hosting company shouldn't be buying domains for that much money. Instead, use the tax write off to push discounts to acquire new customers, not a one-word domain

If you only knew how many people tell us a year that they were trying to remember our domain name and how to spell it and etc and they tried "split.com" you would understand.

If the domain is a part of a whole new branding concept ("Host with Split.com"), then it's a wise investment.

Funny thing about sin.net.... We got hit with SOOOO many spam, DDoS attacks and religious groups hating on us because we had that domain, we decided to lose it because there was just bad Karma...

Heheh, nice thought, but were branded just find.
Problem is, lots of people cant spell. LOL
Typos and etc. Regardless, lots of people always abbreviate us as
"I host with Split" and its been that way for years. Our name is just long.
So we are catering to a natural development, not poor branding. :-)

Actually I save money this way, believe it or not.
Cheaper to buy the domain than pay the commissions on it as they were structured.

For published sales, I thought it was business.com - $7.5 million (Nov 1999)

Oh, there was also like $50 million paid by DotTV to the island nation of Tuvalu. This gave them rights to the ".tv" TLD... but technically, that wasn't a name sale.

What do you mean no?

Domains are $9 a pop

And if they had done better job at branding splitinfinity the wouldnt need to spend 40k on a new domain.

Just because you brand it more doesn't make people better at spelling. But how hard is "infinity"? If you passed 4th grade you should be able to make it.

Nice com...not sure if I would use it as hosting company name...hopes it helps out your clients who forgot to bookmark or save email or don't know how to spell the hosting company name they are paying money to. Don't take this wrong, but your other domain name made more sense than this one for a hosting company.

JMO, I just had to be another to cross analyze

Shit I call it good service.

Set up a little account with em just this evening.
ialien.com found a new home, split was on ICQ, got the email, got the FTP scored within 20 minutes. The domain is propagating.

Kick ass service.
