What ever happened to the Online Grocery concept??

I used to see these new dot com grocery trucks flying around town for a few months and now, I have not seen one forever.

Is the concept dead?

The concept is still around, but I think they outsource their deliveries to 3PL, which is why you don't see their branded trucks as much.

They're still around, but I think that the market for these has refined. Generally, people enjoy shopping. Online grocery shopping services are great for people who are too busy to go for themselves.

I still see online grocery shopping trucks around my area, but far fewer now that the novelty has warn off.

For me, I got tired of the nasty bananas and squashed bread as I'm sure many others...

Marty,

I actually collect Dot Bomb paraphanellia. I have a complete collection of Web Van and Kozmo marketing materials. I even have a Web Van chilled street side drop box that people were supposed to leave next to their mail box for drops while they were at work.

I remember a 1999 issue of Red Herring magazine that had a van driving towards you on the cover of it and the tagline "Here comes Web Van, the 21st century's biggest company in the world!"

Oh the humanity!

Albertsons still delivers. I used Peapod a few times in ATL but I hated not being able to pick out my own produce and meat.

I have my groceries delivered every 2 weeks. I've talked to the driver a few times and it sounds like the service is really utilized by older people. I've never had a problem with meat or produce so far.

My wife orders from Vons.com every week!

Saves time in the lives of busy people.

She'd rather spend 10 - 15 minutes online ordering then hitting the market with the kids and waiting on long lines! That makes sense to me.

We pay a $5 delivery fee and get $5 or 5% off every order.

I'm all for it!

Call you later Marty - been a little nuts the past 2 days!
