Woman faces charges for deleting ex-boyfriend's online game data

FUKUSHIMA -- A woman in her 30s who illegally used her boyfriend's online username and password to access an Internet game and delete his game data faces charges, police said.

Police reported the woman, of Takaoka, Toyama Prefecture, to the Fukushima District Public Prosecutors Office accusing her of violating a law banning illegal access. She has apparently admitted to the allegations against her.

"I did it as revenge for breaking up with me," police quoted her as saying.

The man, who is in his 20s, did not suffer financially because of the woman's actions, but she deleted items such as weapons and clothes that he had spent time collecting in the game.

Investigators said the woman accessed the online role-playing game "Lineage" using the man's username and password in about April last year.

"Lineage" is an adventure game in which players fight enemies with characters such as knights and magicians. Players can type messages to each other while they are playing the game, and can have their characters team up.

The woman and the man reportedly met each other through the game in the autumn of 2003, and started a relationship, actually meeting each other, but they soon broke up, police said.

"Lineage" is operated by a company in the Tokyo Metropolitan area. (Mainichi Shimbun, Japan, Jan. 20, 2005)

Just because a person decides to spend all their time in front of a PC (sound familiar) does not mean they do not have a life ? are they still breathing, therefore they are still alive.

To me, working more than 8-hours is pathetic and the person needs to get a life.

What would you think if your X toasted all your galleries/HTML, index files or whatever? Yah of course ...the fucking little whore/bastard.

Just because it is a game does not mean it is not to be taken seriously. My time is worth something to me, and I do not care about monetary value ... who the fuck are they to tell me what it is worth? How long did it take the person to get to whatever point in the game? Now, times that by his/her hourly wage from their normal job and times it by two (I believe time away from work is more valuable than that spent at work) and that is the very least the person deserve for compensation.

dont take it personal. but i dont believe dedicating and making a living off of a game is normal..

ive played these games for years. i started with Ultima online, and i play WoW now. but just for fun.. the people that play these games for a living start losing sense of reality.

Was not taken personally Abyss_Vee and I apologize for response - I am a very passionate person and it shows through my responses.

I am a huge advocate for life and living -- all I am/was saying is what one does or chooses to do with their time is solely up to them (so long as they do not harm others, without consent).

As for reality ... which revision? Some say online porn is the furthest thing from reality. Can you actually touch the boobs? No.

Also, the 'real world or society can suck big time and tends to make some retreat to alternate lifestyles.

yes, and any other type of business. i dont believe role playing games are meant for people to dedicate their entire life to.

people get married inside the game. live their life inside the game. These people do not see daylight.

i know they do not cause anyone harm, and you are absolutely right, it is totaly their choice to do whatever they please..

i personaly played these games and know alot of people that play these games. it does ruin their lives. they get so into these games that nothing else matters. Alot of them get emotionally problems, and most go into depression cause its a hard switch to go back to reality. (these games do not last forever)

and about online porn.. its just a business. you dont live inside the tgp, galleries, paysite etc. you dont live your life in it.. its just a business. Your running business and catering to people that need to get off for few hours. but these online rgp people dedicate their life to it. i have a few friends that cant socialize with people in the real world because these games affected them so badly.

a). It does not ruin their lives ... their lack of will power is the culprit. As with drugs, alcohol, jacking-off and etc ... Do not blame the tool, blame the tool using the tool.

b). Uh, just look at some of the folk running around society - pornstardom is the current trend. And yes, porn feeds the perverts hunger. I look at login stats and see how much time some spend spanking the monkey.

if your comparing it to drugs, and alcohol... those arnt exactly good things.. so you are sort of agreeing with me that it does affect their life in a bad way... because its not a way of living your life and making money
