WW2 Japanese Samurai Sword

How much is a WW2 Japanese Soldier's Samurai Sword worth? I figure someone here has gotta know and this is the best place to ask.

if you dont know, just post witty stuff like:
"1 cent"
" "
"a blowjob"

There are literally thousands of fakes out there floating around.

Go to a library and get an ID book or have them bring one in.

Pull the blade pin from the handle. Remove the blade and whatever the round thing is called. (The hubby is asleep, he knows this stuff pert well). Look for markings on the tang of the blade and compare those as well as the round thnig to the book.

If anything looks right, call around and find an expert. Have them look at it. We have 4 hanging on the wall upstairs, 2 are real and two are fakes but no one can tell them apart except an expert.

If you DO find an expert that will recheck it for free then do so by all means even if its not in the book tho. I highly doubt any book shows ALL of them.

If it was mass produced during WW2 (gunto) then not too much.

If it is a true Nihon-to (Japanese sword), then take pics, and ask questions here:

FYI: this is why a real nihon-to costs a lot.

http://www.channelj.co.jp/meta/intr1...a_e_020204.asx

A 'good' polish costs $100.00 an inch. A great polish costs about $1,000.00 an inch

I have a few showa gunto era armory produced NCO swords. They are made from bayonet steel and have not been hand forged.

Even these are worth $$$ as they are the genuine item and can be verified.

There is a -flood- of fake antiques coming out of China right now. A lot of these are made from old wood and other materials and they can be very convincing.

I just searched for "Japanese sword" on Ebay and almost all of the results look fake. The only one of them that seemed legitimate was http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...ategory=40 80 but it may well be faked too.
