I was thinking of going to freebsd, but I just cant have any downtimes. Errata on freebsd from what I have heard is slow. I loose several hundred per hour of downtime, so its well worth it to have excellent releases.

Plus, I know linux enough to admin the boxes I have. I have used freebsd some, but not well enough to be effective |

Downtimes? I hate the break the news to you, but freebsd hasn't has any kernel or root exploits longer then I can imagine. Just about 2 weeks ago or less, EVERY flavor of Linux including Redhat (and I'm assuming Enterprise as well) had an exploit that would give anybody root to your box. Just because your paying for Enterprise, don't mean your not going to get any downtime. FreeBSD is used widely upon corporations such as Yahoo!. This link is a company that monitors websites with the longest running "uptimes" on the internet. Check out and see what O/S is #1. http://uptime.netcraft.com/up/today/top.avg.html Check it out dude, it pretty nice |

Also, if your worried about learning how to install and maintain packages, check out the ports collection. It couldn't be simplier.

/usr/ports Example Apache Install: cd /usr/ports/www/apache13 make && make install And the conf files are located in /usr/local/etc/apache. Give her a whirl ... once you try it, you'll never go back |

linux MIGHT have the capabilities of running some things faster, doesnt mean its stable. *BSD far outdoes linux in many many ways, If you are really thinking about switching, hit my icq, ive admin'd many of freebsd box's and im sure i can help some.
