Opinions on Spyware

Some of these Spyware programs should be classified as viruses. A new category of virus.

We have our trojan viruses, our worm viruses, etc. To me spyware is the Ad virus.

When a program attempts to auto install without permission and then requires multiple programs to remove it, it is nothing sort of a virus in my opinion.

I wonder how long it will take for some senator to get his browser jacked and then decide to lobby agaisnt this growing problem.

People who distribute spyware should face the same penalities as a hacker.

My friend and his wife asked me to fix a computer recently. They claimed they had no idea what was wrong with it.

They must of had 20 different spyware programs on that thing. It was a mess. You could not go online with that thing it was usless.

I formated C:\ and installed windows for them. I wasnt about to waste my time trying to remove all the shit.

Got them online and downloaded Spybot for them.

My point is most people just dont know how to get rid of it. I have seen many computers plaqued with spyware to the point where they can't be online.

By definition a virus is actively self replicating. SpyWare generally is not. Its like a vampire, you have to invite it in one way or another, and once installed it doesn't replicate itself within or from your computer.

I have seen Spyware come in not asking to be invited..

I also have seen spyware come back after deleting it. I have also seen spyware with the sole purpose of inviting it's friends

What about self replicating? Thats the crux of the definition of a virus in my mind. Have you seen spyware that once installed actively sends itself to other computers?

I have never seen a trojan horse do that either. But I still consider them a virus.

Spyware pisses me off to no end. Not because it pops up unwanted ads, but because it's nonstop pop ups. I could accept moderation, maybe once when MSIE is open, but most open every 10-60 seconds endlessly. Which is so ridiculous, because even IF you wanted to buy something, you can't because you have 50 windows opening a minute and I feel REALLY bad for newbie PC users, that have no idea what it is and how to make it stop. It's malicious... worse than ActiveX dialers ever were. Fuck anyone that uses them.

The funny thing is, you get them from non adult sites more than adult sites. Obviously adult webmasters know better, that people have to actually be able to see the ad, not buried under countless other ones.

Spyware
