Styx, REO Speedwagon, Journey

These guys rocked San Jose, Ca. last night!

We had a blast, even in their older years, these guys
can sure rock the house.

Check them out, they are touring all around the US.
The tour basically just began.

Sorry not the same Journey, wouldn't go to that concert even if they had replaced Steve Perry with Jesus Christ himself.

Styx, REO and Journey don't "rock" and they never have. AC/DC and the Stones rock(ed), Zeppelin rocked, but Mr. Roboto isn't rock. It's keyboard crap for yuppies.

Dude, don't put AC/DC in the same category as Zeppelin or the Stones, not even comparable.

Last month I took a lengthy and I mean (at least for me) lengthy road trip...

The entire trip we listened to these three groups! I love them, thanks for the heads up!!!!

those guys didn't rock 30 years ago.

that sounds like a good way to get a group of musicians together so you can take them all out at one time.

Hey. I have seen all those guys in the past couple years. As a musician I can tell you they are all top notch. I love Styx but agree the Dennis Deyoung crap was bad. I have to give him this though. Hey was one of the best fucking synth players to ever live. I only say this because I have had to learn a lot of parts from a lot of different players and his solos from the 70's are a bitch.

it is worth a ticket just to see Todd Sucherman (styx drummer) play live. He is young and one of the very best.

Check out the NEW styx studio cd if you want to hear good new prog rock stuff.

Hey i also like Tool so get off of my back! lol

RocHard and I went to see Journey at the November show in Vegas at the Aladdin theater. The show was OK, if you've never seen Journey live I'd recommend it.

HOWEVER,

Maybe I'm being too rough on the new singer. I've seen Journey with Steve Perry. The new singer hit the notes, but had the look and feel of a Michael Bolton wannabe. And he forgot some words. Journey is not a place where it's safe to forget words, most of the crowd knows ALL the words. Hell, we've had 20 years to learn them.

I saw Tommy Shaw once open for Rush and they were great. I don't know if he's back with Styx but I'd still go.

And REO Speedwagon, well I'd see them if they were opening for someone good. I mean I'd go out of my way to get there early enough to see them.

I plan on seeing this show.

Seen Styx 3 times in the late 70's/early 80's and REO Speedwagon at the Montreal Forum in early 80's and loved both live.

Tommy Shaw is with Styx again. He and JY the are the only ones from the band anyone would have seen in the 70s or 80s. They had to go to court to fire Dennis DeYoung. Honest to God they fucking sound great right now.

Very few new bands sound that good live right now. Singers just don't have to be able to sing anymore to be a rock star. I spend hours every day tuning up vocal tracks that NEVER would have been kept 10 years ago.

I get paid to fix it so I won't bitch too much.

Music is music, and I like most forms of it. If your limiting yourself to the Stones, AC/DC, and Zeppelin, well.... Your just limiting yourself. I have all three in my current CD collection.

I also have Styx, REO, and of course Journey in my CD collection. Don't tell me that these three don't rock.......

And VirtuMike..... Thanks once again for taking me to see Journey in Vegas. That was great!!!!

I love tunes from every band mentioned in this thread so far, and have also worked security for many such classic rock groups over the years. At big outdoor rock festivals, when most of the new loud bangin' bands with the screamer/growly-voiced singers are on I tune it out. When bands like Styx or Journey or REO or anyone like that is on it's always a great show. The fans are loyal to a fault and are truly there out of love for the music, not just to party and get stoned/layed/shitfaced.

Those bands must be one of the most overrated in the history of music. I am glad they have always been an american phenomenon. I don`t think any of these mullet-ridden bands have ever had any hits in europe, but then again we brought "EUROPE" upon mankind. I am not sure which is worse. Close call.

Either way it is a slight case of overintoxication of bad hicksvill fad.

how is journey's new frontman? from what i hear, he sounds like steve perry which is good for them i would imagine. however, journey without steve is like iced tea without the ice.
